ASP3 basic Metadata should always be embedded

I can understand why the non-standard metadata stuff for ASP should go in an xmp sidecar file, but iptc data, like description, caption, copyright, etc. - seems to me this should always be embedded, so it is automatically preserved across software.

What do you mean? Raw files are not modyfied, so everything needs to go into an xmp sidecar. When exporting you can choose what metadata to embed. Wheres the problem?

one day you will appreciate the fact that you never changed your original (raw) files.
or not. but no software is forever. it helps if you want to access your valuable images that they are structurially all the same and not randomly altered.
