Corel VideoStudio X9 - ERROR - Prepare Record Failed!!! #0
Hi
I'm having this error since 2015, and also with the X8 version. This error happen in my computer, but in other computer at home, I don't have this problem.
When I am going to capture my screen, I get always this error
Prepare Record Failed!!! #0
I want Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X9 to capture my screen, because I want to create videotutorials. I am using Camtasia right now, but I am tired of it, and I want to move to Corel VideoStudio X9
However I cannot move, because I always get this error.
In an old computer I have, I've installed the software, and it capture the screen normally.
The problem is happening in my brand new computer... so this error happen in certain machines under certain circunstances...
So why is this happening and how may I solve it?
I am running Windows 8.1 64 bits, with 16 GB RAM and 4 TB hard disk (2TB / 2TB). My graphics card is a Radeon R290 Toxic, and my sound card a SoundBlaster Z-Series.
I have installed two updates, Service Pack2, and Service Pack 3 for Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X9
I would really appreciate your help to solve this problem.
Cheers

Zero replies... well I will add what I know about this error at the moment to help more poeple that could have it.
The first thing, I would like to invite Corel to talk about this, and "not hiding the error causes".
I tried Corel VideoStudio X8 and I had this error when capturing the screen... Prepare Record Failed!!! #0... so I had to decline to buy the product...
okay...
Then I tried Pinnacle 18 and also I had this error when capturing the screen... Prepare Record Failed!!! #0... so I had to decline to buy the product... AGAIN...
okay...
(my patience start to explode in flames)
I tried Corel VideoStudio X9 and I had this error AGAIN... when capturing the screen... Prepare Record Failed!!! #0... so I had to decline to buy the product...
BUT...
I tried Pinnacle 19.5 and no more errors. It works fine.
So you know this is a bug that happen in some machines, and you don't say anything. I don't understand why.
I think someone from Corel should tell the users using the X9 version, that paid for it, that you will release a fix or a patch to solve this.
Silence is not a good option.
This morning I've opened a support ticket with Corel, and I'll be glad to share the solutions they offer, however, at the moment I still having silence and no reply.

Re: Corel VideoStudio X9 - ERROR - Prepare Record Failed!!!
3 different programs give you the error seems to indicate something in your system is causing the crash and error message. A google search does seem to indicate that the problem is Corel capture related and this link may offer some help: http://gametipsandmore.blogspot.com/201 ... rding.html
You realize of course that this is not a Corel support site and hardly anybody from Corel looks in here.

Re: Corel VideoStudio X9 - ERROR - Prepare Record Failed!!!
Just to expand a bit on canuck's comment about this not being a Corel support site, it is in fact a user-to-user support site. Though we use the Corel logo at the top, none of us here is a Corel employee. We are all users, just like you, who volunteer our time to help others where we can. As canuck indicated, actual Corel employees/techs very rarely visit this Board, and do so only on very specific problems.
I'm afraid that your having received no answers about your specific problem therefore merely reflects the fact that other users here -- myself included -- don't have the problem you describe and thus cannot suggest any way to fix it.
As it happens, though I have no trouble with Corel's screen capture, I don't use it on a regular basis. I use another program (Ashampoo Snap) though it is not free.

UPS ! I thought this was an official corel forum, cos I saw the logo... ? ok ok ok now I understand.
I don't agree with canuck... I know the failure is in the screen capture utility.
This problem happens in certain circunstances... I know some people is not having it and other people are experiencing this error.
This is happening with Corel VideoStudio X9... but with Pinnacle Studio 19.5 is not happening.
In the 18 version from Pinnacle, we had also the same error...
This error happen in some machines... cos I tried the software in other computers at home and I don't have this error.
Why? I don't know. That is what I would like to know.
So if I do my maths I see clearly Corel people have fixed something in the 19.5 version, and now I don't have this error anymore.
As you may see the screen capture utility is the same for both programs, so they have changed something in the screen capture utility attached with Pinnacle 19.5
Sadly, I did not receive any reply from my ticked opened in Corel... so I still waiting.
I would like to know what they would say about this error.
Cheers

Re: Corel VideoStudio X9 - ERROR - Prepare Record Failed!!!
I had the same problem and I think I figured it out.
Bring up screen capture then settings, then turn off "system audio". I did that and the error message doesn't come up anymore and the "Screen Capture" function works fine. I think, in my case, I need to plug the microphone into the computer because I have the mic set as the "System Audio" recorder.

Re: Corel VideoStudio X9 - ERROR - Prepare Record Failed!!!
Ok, I figured out what's causing the problem and it's a very easy fix. (at least for my system it is). When I want to use screen capture, I have to plug my microphone into the computer and the "Failed" error message does not appear. If I don't have the microphone plugged in, I get the error message. If I don't want the microphone plugged in, I have to turn off "System Sound" in the setting of the small screen capture box. It was that easy. The hard part was finding out what it was.
I would imagine that would be the fix for everyone but I don't know.

I guess I should also note that if you don't want to plug a microphone in, you would have to change the recording setting in your computer control panel to your system sound. Here's a picture of the setting I have so I have to plug in the mic to not get the error message.

Re: Corel VideoStudio X9 - ERROR - Prepare Record Failed!!! #0
I have had this happen a few times and it always goes back to my sound card. My solution to resolve this is I simply go to my Windows Control Panel and show all the "sound" hardware under "DEVICE Manager", and proceed to "DELETE" them all or "uninstall them". Usually, when you do this your system will ask if you wish to reboot and you should answer yes. If it does not ask, do it anyway.
When I reboot my system, it locates and reactivates all current hardware and that includes finding the sound card. Then the screen capture works fine.
The majority of the time the error is self-inflicted by being overzealous using my maintenance programs.
I did a search to see if anyone else had this same problem and got this as an answer, and they either got no answer or got other responses. This works for me EVERY Time! I have been using VSCAP for a few years now and this only happens once in a blue moon (explained above).
Good Luck! I created this account to answer this one question, and I do not look here that often, so I hope it helps those who want to complain about the software. It is normally not the software as I have been using it since it first came out and generally have no problems using it. I am currently on version 2018, but will likely update eventually. I just don't do as much editing nowadays as I have in the past 12 years.

When software requires 3 or 4 major SPs in the year following its release, then yes it is the software!NCRC wrote:It is normally not the software as I have been using it since it first came out and generally have no problems using it.
