I think PSP X8 is a feature-rich graphics editor, but it is very unstable when working with large files: it freezes, seemingly randomly. I have a system with 24 GB of RAM, so I assume the program does not support images > 25 MB. I have autosave set for "Edit workspace" every 15 minutes, but my work is interrupted every 5 minutes as I must wait for the bar to travel across the bottom of the screen...a real nuisance.
So how can I recover my work after PSP locks up, and I need to exit via Task Manager? I looked in the following location for "psp438D.tmp" that had kept appearing as the file being saved every 5 minutes, but alas, the folder is empty. Maybe autosave in X8, like time stamping of modified document does not work either.
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\Corel Paint Shop Pro X8 Temp Files
Can anyone lend a hand and share what they do in such a situation?

Re: How can I recover autosaved file after crash?
I often work on files around the 300-500 meg size. So size isn't an issue. I also have auto save turned off. I found it constantly interrupted my work flow at just the wrong time. Simply save when it suits you. It's a good habit to get into and something you should have control of yourself.
I've never solved the issue of save times. On my old i3 laptop with Win7 saving a 200meg tiff takes about 1 second. Yet on my new i5 laptop with Win 8.1 it takes several seconds. I'm sure it varies from user to user. I'm not really complaining because I'm one of the lucky ones where PSP starts up in just a few seconds so it's a compromise.
I know PSP has issues. But I also know that many issues are system specific and are related to how the user has, or uses, their computer.

Re: How can I recover autosaved file after crash?
Thanks. I will make it a habit of manually saving my work every few minutes, or after a major edit. I disabled Auto Preserve, since like Auto Save, it does not work either. I think Corel will do well to fix all the bugs before adding new features.
