transfer New Blue plug ins from VSx8 to VSx9

Post by Mark Swanson »

I have some plug-ins from New Blue that I got when I bought VSx8. Now I have upgraded to VSx9, and I'd like to be able to use those plug-ins in x9. How can I make the new version see my plug-ins'?
Also, New Blue's plug ins allow you to install them on two computers...and one computer has crashed and needed to be repaired...I did that but now I am told that my license has been all used up and I cannot re-install them. What should I do?

I would ask the makers of New Blue, they are going to have to uninstall the one computer that crashed in their database.

Not sure what you mean by New Blue plug-ins, but if you mean New Blue Filter packages ie: the Essentials packages which were available before New Blue changed their marketing strategy, then navigate to C;\Program Files\Corel\CorelVideoStudioX8\vft-plug and copy the filters into the same location of VSX9.

I have been using New Blue filters for many years and have installed on 4 computers over that time plus reinstalled them dozens of time over the same period, have never had an issue with the licence expiring, New Blue filters can be installed in as many programs that you have where New Blue filters can be used, and in the case of the Essentials Packages, from memory that is about 10-12 different NLEs and at the moment I have them installed in 3 NLEs

If for some reason you still can't see the filters in X9 after doing this, then go to C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64) and change the name of the "19.0" folder to "19.0_OLD". Then reopen X9. It will take a couple of minutes for it to do its thing, but it will rebuild that folder and when X9 is open you should now see those filters listed on the FX page in the VS preview screen.

Thanks for the help. I haven't yet tried these fixes, because when I look into the location where you folks say I should find the filters there are a whole bunch of files. How can I tell which ones I need to copy? Should I simply select all, and let the computer ask me if I want to replace the ones that are there in the same folder for x9? Pardon my ignorance please but what is the best way to copy only the files I need?
The filters in question are the New Blue Paint effects which I got when I upgraded to x8.

I don't have the NB Painter filters so I can't help with the specific names. But if you look in the X8 FX window, and click on the NewBlue Painter title in the drop down menu, it will list each filter with a given name. Write these down on a piece of paper. Then go to the vft_plug folder in X8 and look down the list until you come to those which start with NB. There should be some files which will say something like 'NBPainter'. There will probably be three, with .xml, .dll and .chm extensions. These need to be copied to the X9 vft_plug folder.

A little further down, individual filters will start with 'NewBlue' which will be followed by the individual names of each Painter filter which you have written down. Copy these over to X9 too.

Restart X9. If the Painter filters don't show up, then close X9 and rename the 19.0 folder as described above. Restart X9 but remember you need to be patient as it may take a couple of minutes for the new 19.0 folder to be created and the links with the filters established before the program will open again.
