Keeping Ultimate Add-ons

Post by Rick_R »

I just want to point this out for folks who might not be aware of it.

As you know, a PSP Ultimate edition contains extras such as additional brushes and third-party software, and the particular add-ons vary from one PSP version to the next.

The add-on installers usually require that version of PSP to be installed, i.e., if you have X5, you upgrade to X7 and remove X5 and then you try to run an X5 add-on installer, it will tell you you need to install X5.

But once the installer is run, you normally can simply copy plug-ins, etc., to the new PSP version's plug-ins folder and they will work -- even if you have never had the older PSP version on that machine. So, for instance, you had an X5 Ultimate add-on installed on one machine and then you put X7 on a new machine. You can copy from the X5's plug-ins to the X7 machine and they usually will work. Similarly, you can copy brushes, etc., from one PSP version to another.

Each version of PSP creates its own sets of folders for your custom files. PSP also has its own folders and files on your system drive, which is usually C.
The custom files can be copied and moved elsewhere on your PC or to another hard drive, all you need to do is direct PSP via File Locations to those folders.
These folders also contain a Plugin folder where you can store/install plugins. It won't make any difference if you uninstall PSP and clear personal files as it will not affect those custom folders. It will however remove the current version number folders and all from PSP on your system C: drive.
I have plugins I have to install and these are never affected as they are in Programmes. However, upon installation of a new version I always have to do File Locations.
Many older 32bit plugins will only work in PSP 32bit. You have to have 64bit plugins for the 64bit version of PSP.
