Version X8 has a Time Stamp bug?

Post by Djard007 »

When manually saving a file (File -> Save as), my copy of Paint Shop Pro X8 fails to save the file with the current date. None of my other graphic editors has this problem.

I looked in "Preferences" but could not find a setting for time stamping (should not be necessary). Is this a known bug?

I have a feeling he is not talking about Windows/File Explorer, but the properties box of PSP itself. After doing much the same as you, I got a new date in File Explorer but nothing at all in PSP properties, not even an indication that the image had been modified in any way. The only date shown is the date the image was first created.

OK did some more testing.
Used the same file. Loaded it in an earlier version of PSP X4. Checked Info button and Creator Information and showed Image created as 25 march 2011 and Last modified as same date.
Used a levels on the file and saved as same name but added Mod on end.
Reloaded both files and the second modified file showed the last modified as 21 June 2016.

Loaded both these files into X8 and X8 did show the Last modified as 21 June 2016.
Today I loaded the first file into X8 applied a Levels and then saved it as namemodX8.
Reloaded that file and the Last Modified was unchanged

So yes this is a bug-
X8 can read the file and show the last modified date (IF the file was saved in another program)
X8 fails to write the last modified date to the file.

Thanks.

I was referring to what Win Explorer was showing. My first impression was that PSP X8 was not saving a modified file. I guess I'll use my Time Stamp app to manually update the time and date. Maybe the next version of PSP will fix the bug. My old JASC PSP v9 always showed the "Date Modified" correctly.

In Windows Explorer, they are at least 3 different dates available. Click-right on top of the Date column and you will be able to add and display different dates.
I don't know if this will help ...

Thanks for mentioning that Jean-Luc.

I have mine set to showing Date Modified as it allows me when comparing two folders (on on computer and other on Flash drive to transfer to another computer) to see the latest versions with changes so that I can transfer those.
In Windows XP I can choose Date Created , Date Modified and Date Accessed.

In Windows 7 I can select a whole lot more including the above also Date acquired, Date archived, Date completed, Date created, Date last saved, Date received, Date released, Date sent, etc.

Hopefully Corel will release a patch to fix the bug as my copy of version X8 does not save an updated file with the date it was modified.
