Project Playback is all black, only audio

I'm trying to combine 2 videos into 1, yes first simple test here...

I put 2 movies on the timeline, trimmed both a little bit, and then when I try to play the Project it runs through both videos, but only plays audio with the screen being all black. If I click on either one of the movies on the timeline, it gets highlighted in gold and then I can play just that Clip in the preview window and it works. I tried shift-clicking both videos so they both have the gold boarder around them, but the same problem happens and the Project just plays a black video. Any thoughts?

where did these videos originate from and what are their properties

please RIGHT click on one of the clips in the timeline and choose 'properties' from the pop-up - - copy the properties window and post it on here

Ironically, my preview version of this software is now expired. These videos came from the Nvidia Geforce shadowplay program which records in-game videos (from a star wars game in this case). They were both MP4 videos, 3440x1440 size @ 59 frames/sec, using H.264 compression, one is 218MB the other is 502MB... I'm not sure if that info is helpful or not. If there's an easy fix to get those working I'd love to actually buy the software and start using it. Thank you for your quick replies

When you say "preview version" - do you mean the free trial ? would of helped if you had mentioned that

The trial version of Videostudio X9 is a severely crippled programme and it is a wonder it plays anything at all - certainly not mp4's

Your problems are almost certainly all because you are using the trial version

Yes, it was the trial version... I guess buying the real version wouldn't hurt since it has a 30-day money back guarantee (if it still didn't work for me). It's interesting though that it does play each MP4 Clip by itself, but it's only when I try to play 2 together on a timeline that the Project goes black.

I am having the same issue with a licensed copy of v9.5 sp4.

The clip plays fine, but when I play the project, the video files are black (only audio).
Properties:
QT Format
Size: 1280x720
Duration: 40 sec
Compression: AVC Coding
Frame Rate: ~60/sec

I tried rendering it and the video is black there too.

Ideas?

I used Format Factory to reduce the video to 30fps and now it works fine. Apparently, VideoStudio doesn't like 60fps.

Of course it "likes" 60 fps. That is a standard NTSC frame rate, especially for AVCHD/mpeg4 high def video. And if Video Studio couldn't play it, there would be hundreds of complaints here about it, which there aren't...

What is more likely is that your computer does not have the QT codec on it (it does not comes as part of Video Studio). And when you put the clip in Format Factory it not only down-converted the frame rate, but also used a format (e.g. mpeg-4) which VS is equipped to "see".
