Burning a large DVD

Post by Berzelius »

I have seven mpeg2 clips, totalling 3hr 30min, that I wish to burn to a DVD. At the moment I am producing the project as 2 DVDs, each less than 2 hours. What I would like to do is to produce a single DVD. I realise that the quality will be poor but what I wish to do is to produce this single DVD and see for myself what the quality is like. At the moment I get the error message "Convert step got some problems" when I try to burn all 7 files as a DVD. Is there any way to get round this to produce the single DVD?

Don't bother trying to put 3:30 hours of video on a standard DVD - it will be very poor quality.

You could use "customize" and set the bitrate as low as possible but I don't think it is possible to compress 3:30 hours to fit on a 4.7GB DVD since the lowest bitrate possible is 1775

Hi

If you convert your 7 video files to a compliant Mpeg2 file then the burner module will not convert again, so you should not get that error message.
The total size of all 7 files had to be less than 4.3 Gb to fit to disc
You should use a Thumbnail or Text menu and deselect motion menu to save disc space.

Using Batch convert set the convert properties to:-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First, (as original, may be Upper Field)
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 2300 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Once you have all 7 converted, start a new project, Share Create Disc DVD, opens the burner module
Now add your new video files.
The green size / duration bar at the bottom should be all green with no yellow and certainly no red.
Project Settings should have Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg selected ( ticked)

On the last page choose to create an ISO rather than a disc, should be under 4.3 Gb
you can play the ISO using VLC Media Player to check quality, if ok burn that ISO to disc using Tools Burn from Disc Image…

Try using a Dual Layer DVD (8.5 GB). You may be able to get a 3.5 hour video on it.
