Need a better understanding of transitions

Post by jezzer »

Ive been doing a lot of searching on here and the rest of the web about transitions is there any good sites that goes into detail but easy to understand,Im just putting together something for close family and im trying to work out what transition will work nicely,There is a part of the video where a child is opening up a present but its not zoomed in to begin with then the next shot is a close up of her,a straight cut to here zoomed in looks a bit to rough but a crossfade is to long and can been noticeable.

I don't think a transition will give you the full effect you want

investigate the "Customise Motion" function - right click on he video and choose Customise Motion from the pop up

that will allow you to zoom into any part of the video maybe fading and rotating all at the same time to line the end of one clip with the start of the next

Just a minute i think i have not made it clear enough my mistake :? i didn't want to zoom into one of the clips,I have two clips the first clip is not zoomed in then the second clip is of her opening up her present which is zoomed in,So i need a smooth transition going from clip A to Clip B.

The camera person stopped recording and basically moved closer to the child then started recording again so this means there is two separate clips one of her far away and one close up.

so what exactly do you want to happen - every transition goes from A to B - at a speed depending on how long you make it - have you looked at transitions like "Dissolve" or "smear"

I use a 1 second crossfade for my transitions, one second is just right for me but you can experiment with the length of the crossfade to see what suits you.

I didn't know you had so many options with the smear this could work out quite good. Thanks

I do use crossfade but im finding one second is still to long i think im going to have to play around the the number of frames instead of using 1 second.

Thanks

Is this the same problem as your earlier post?

You should be able to Zoom into the first video over the last 2/3 seconds till the girl is approx the same size as the start of the second video, then apply Crossfade transition.

Use Customise motion to zoom.

You could try using two timelines, overlap the ends by a few seconds.
Customise motion for zoom and fades.

Otherwise like Brian try another transition not fade, there are a lot to choose from, try one of the mask transitions the MaskE looks good.

Yeah, as I said play around, you nay find something like 18 or 20 frames may be what you're looking for, the right length will be there somewhere.

best of luck, hope you find what you're looking for.

No its not the same problem i got away with it by using the zoom transition :)

But on this one it doesn't look right but i think using crossfade and changing the frame to 18 has made it more smooth and not noticeable.

Thanks Thordell :) Im still learning only just knew last week that you could set the second to 0 and then adjust the frame.
