NOTE: No need to reply to this message. The problems I am encountering have appeared in other applications, and seem to be related to Microsoft's recent upgrade of 10. I am working to resolve them now.

PSP x8 has suddenly started hanging terminally whenever I try to make a selection using the "Smart Selection" tool. I am working on my own JPG photos, doing things the way I have done them thousands of times before. Nothing has changed on my system. (I did install SP2 a bit ago, but I have been using it successfully until now.)
All my current system info is in my registration details.
I'm on deadline, and any input would be most appreciated.
TIA!

Re: X8 now hangs when using Smart Selection Brush
Hi Ken, the fact that you have been able to use PSPX8 successfully until just recently would tell you it's more than like a Windows problem causing an issue with PSP.
Did you customise PSPX8 and save a workspace? Can you resume PSPX8 to default and see if that fixes the issue? Close PSP, hold the shift key to open. Of course, doing this will remove any customisation
you will have made.

Re: X8 now hangs when using Smart Selection Brush
Thanks. Yes, it seems to have possibly been a Windows problem related to a recent 10 update. However, no matter how I start the program, I can no longer see the "Smart" check-box on the Smart Selection tool menu. Very strange! (I like to go back and forth, checking and un-checking that box as I select complex shapes.) I will keep trying various things, but if this rings a bell, please let me know.

Re: X8 now hangs when using Smart Selection Brush
Hi,
Did anyone manage to resolve this matter in then end? I have exactly the same issue. I've been using 64bit PaintShop Pro x8 on Win10 fine for a while but now it just crashes whenever I use the 'Smart Selection Brush'. I've done a full unistall/reinstall but still no joy. Considering I need this feature specifically for website images for my business I am mahoosively unimpressed with Corel!
thanks

I have this problem as well.rmpsmith wrote:Hi,

Problem: Smart Selection Brush does not work properly and freezes the entire application, which then requires an END TASK in the task manager to remove the app from frozen status.
Steps Taken:
1. Consulted Corel Product Forums and found this to be a problem others have had.
2. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the product. Same issue remains.
3. I have tried resetting to default. Same issue remains.
4. I have tried the other selection features and they seem to work fine without any hesitation.
5. I used this product successfully without any issues yesterday, January 10, 2017. Today, January 11, 2017, it is not working. I did not add or delete any products to my computer or do anything that I have not done daily for months.
Hardware:
I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-C, 64 bit OS running on Win10
This feature is critical to what I do.
Request for Assistance:
I know it is easy for Windows to say this is a Corel problem and Corel to say it is a Windows problem, but can anyone tell me what the real problem is and if it can be fixed?
Thank you for your assistance!
