New MF4 patch available and tested - same old crash!!!
The new patch is available and I have downloaded it, but I have not been able to test its new DVD Burn powers because I cannot get past an old MF problem where joining MPGs causes MF4 to crash. I have two MPG files, one 10 minute file created with MF4 using on-the-fly compression from VHS to MPG format. The other file is an edited file produced using VS7 and rendered to MPG format. Both have identical properties - 7000K and 80% compression. I joined them in MF4 and set 6 chapter points. I was surprised when MF4 decided to re-render them as the right "do not convert" box was checked. 5 minutes into the rendering, MF4 simply hung - not even a "Convert step got some problems" message. I terminated the program and the usual error message was sent to Microsoft (what the hell do they do with these!!). I can get around this by not joining and have multiple layers of chapters, but this is not what I want. Anyone else else have a solution? Thanks

In MF4 on the left side is the export icon. So far experimenting with that
new feature and the "Help" screen. I've found that after you drag all
the clips to combine them (Joining into one Thumbnail), then using the
"Fast Export" will export the original material as is and join it.
(The "Fast Export" is for exporting dvd compliant mpeg2 files OR non-compliant dvd mpeg2 files). They should have the SAME properites.
If you choose "Fast Export Dvd Compliant" the audio will be changed
to the "Project Properties" and the video will be untouched, BUT only if
the video is dvd compliant (that gets hairy).
If the videos (source material) have different properties then either use
the customize and manually make your settings or create a template and
choose the template.
What I've gotten to work is "Join the Videos", export to 1 mpeg2 file.
Start a new session. Import the joined video, create chapters and burn.
Hope this helps,
