Re: Voiceover track
Thank you to everyone who tried to assist with this problem. Eventually I got in touch with Dell who deleted the current driver and downloaded a new one from its site (I had looked and neither my computer guru nor I had been able to locate this driver on the Dell web site). As you suggested, Trevor, this has fixed the lack of sound problem - but I am still getting the "Click" when recording a voiceover. I might contact Dell again about this to see if they can fathom it out.

Re: Voiceover track
Hi
Thanks for the feedback and both relieved and happy you have managed to restore the audio.
Although has not cured the click problem?
Back to the drawing board….
Just thinking out loud here….
What type of mic are you using?
Have you tried a different mic?
Is it possible that your recording device is set to System Audio, then when you try Voice Over it auto switches to Mic causing the blip?
Can you check the recording device is set to Mic and not some magical auto setting?

Re: Voiceover track
Trevor - I looked at your last reply on my iPad and for some reason it is now not coming up on my desktop. Anyway, the mic is definitely set to mic. I have tried another mic and still get the "click". However, I seem to have a greater problem in that no matter how I try to change the properties I cannot get the clarity of sound that I got before installing this new driver. The best I can achieve is by setting the mic level to 80 with a 100db boost setting and the enhancements set to "Micropohne focus" I shall upload a couple of before and after clips. Any ideas anyone?
Sorry, I couldn't add the clips because it says .wav is not allowed

Re: Voiceover track
You will need to upload clips to Dropbox or other sharing site, attach the link to the clip in your next post, then we can download and test

Re: Voiceover track
Just a thought, many years ago when I was using PowerDirector, I had the same problem with a clicking sound at the start of every voice recording, in those days I was using a mic and speakers connected to the audio jacks on the PC. the issue resolved itself when I ditched those in favour of a headset connected via USB, I now use a wireless headset and have no issues with voice recordings

Re: Voiceover track
Thanks again for replies. I got on to Dell again today and the techo insisted on downloading and installing again the driver that we installed yesterday. The situation now seems much improved and I haven't got the clicks in the little testing I have had time to do this afternoon. Anyway, if it recurs I will try the headset mic. Keeping my fingers crossed that all is OK tomorrow!

Re: Voiceover track
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me with this problem. I think that some of the posts seem to have disappeared. However, the latest is that the problems appear to have all been solved. I contacted Dell who took control of my computer and downloaded the latest Realtek driver from its web site. Sadly this did not fix the problems - in addition to the "Clicks" I now had great echos when I tried to record voiceover. So I contacted them again the next day. After fiddling around for some time, so quickly that I didn't actually see if he changed anything. the techo then suggested I download the same driver again and re-install. This I did and all problems seem to have disappeared, although the recording is still a little more "echo-y" than I would like, I can live with it. I shall keep my fingers crossed....
