Newbie to video: using iPhone 60fps videos?

Post by hmeader »

I've tried to search her for an answer, but the terminology is getting in my way :) I'm not a 'video person' just want a fairly easy tool to turn iPhone videos and other photos into memory videos for clients.

That said, can anyone explain in a very basic way WHY, when I put a iPhone MOV that's 60fps into a prjoect, that the playback is so choppy? As if it's dropping frames? It's pretty horrible, and I haven't even tried to output a project yet to see if it's better on some sort of final render. So, no, I haven't chosen an output format to even try.

How do I do this short and sweet? Again, I am not a video 'geek' so need layman's terms and a bit of handholding :)

Thanks

Hi

and welcome to the forums....

HD video can be very demanding on your PC resources and video editing.
Playback on the timeline being choppy is probably the first indication.

Video Studio can create Proxy files that does improve playback making editing easier.

You don’t say which VS version you are using, but go to Settings – Smart Proxy Manager – Enable Smart Proxy.
Now when you add a HD video to the timeline Proxy files will be created, for existing clips, right click for Create Smart Proxy File

The render process may take a while so be patient, go Settings to view the Queue Manager to view progress.

IPhone video editing can be a problem, usually the variable frame rate causes issues.
After inserting the video to the timeline, right click and choose properties, what are they?
Knowing those will influence your output settings.
You can create a screen shot of that window Alt+ PrtSc to copy to clipboard. Paste to image editor to save a jpeg, attach to your post.

When you recorded video using the phone did you record in landscape so the video is using the correct horizontal aspect ratio?
