PSP X8 Welcome Screen never loads

Post by tcfox »

I know this has something to do with my browser settings, but can anyone tell me what site this Welcome screen is trying to access or which browser PSP is trying to use? I realize I can just X it out in the top right corner, but I would prefer it to load so I can stop it from loading every time I open the program. I use Firefox, have my cookies disabled, run Ghostery & Adblock Plus. I don't know if PSP knows to open through Firefox or if IE is it's default browser. If I had more information, I might be able to configure what was necessary to fix this. This is clearly not a major issue, but any help here would be appreciated. TIA

UPDATE (of sorts): I did find where you can set/add/edit/delete your browser (File \ Preferences \ File Locations \ Web Browsers). That didn't help. It was set to Firefox so I stopped all add-ons & allowed all cookies - still nothing. I changed it to IE & that didn't work either. Also, it will not allow me to register my copy of the software. I fill in the info, hit register & it just sits there. I have to X out the top right corner. Here is a screen shot of the Welcome Screen:

If you are talking about the Splash Screen you can turn it off by going to File -> Preferences -> General Program Preferences - Miscellaneous and un-ticking the check box that says "show splash screen when application starts".

If you don't want the Welcome Guide to load every time you open PSP then just untick the small box in the lower left of that screen that says Show This At Startup.

Kathy_9, thanks but no, I mean the welcome screen that loads up. I have the Splash screen already stopped from loading.

Yes JoeB, thank you, I know that box is there, but since the whole thing won't load (all I get is a spinning icon? as if it's trying to load), that box doesn't show up to untick it....ergo, my problem.

Thank you both for your input - it's much appreciated!

If anyone is looking for the answer to this it's here http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=311612 (along with setting the Web Browser to IE)

I've got the following instructions from Corel Support, and it resolved my problem. :D

1 Open up the Control Panel
2. Change your view from Category to Large or Small Icons towards the top right.
3. Double-click on Internet Options
4. Click on the Security Tab
5. Click on the Default Level button
6. Select the Advanced Tab
7. Click on Restore advanced settings and then click on Reset just below that
8. Place a check mark into delete personal settings and then click on "Reset"
9. Once that is complete click on close.

10. Launch the Corel software and proceed with the registration.
I could then untick the box on the Welcome Screen & Register my software! Thanks all for looking!!!
