Hi
I have multiple clips captured by VSP x9 Ultimate and loaded them as thumbnails to my library.
Since getting x9, it crashes often and randomly at the request to create a proxy file. It doesn't matter in the method or whether I take a single clip or a group of clips to the timeline. It seems to be pot luck and within the first 5 secs it crashes. (I'm not performing other computer tasks)
What factors could be causing this?
On previous VSP editions I could queue up dozens of clips overnight and the proxy file creation work would be done. Not now. I'm converting AVCHD H.264 1080p 25fps to proxy file dimensions as below:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)

Re: x9 Ultimate crashes making proxy files
Hi Phil
What happens if you choose “Auto Generate Proxy Files” rather than creating your own template?
What are the full properties of your original video files. You mention AVCHD, I notice you use Frame Based is that the same as originals, just a thought.
If you Create Proxy Files from the library without adding to timeline do you still get crashes?
I will try a few tests to see if I can replicate the crash.

Re: x9 Ultimate crashes making proxy files
I'll try the checking the Autogenerate box and run some tests.
The original files are AVCHD H.264 1920 x 1080 24 bits 25fps, audio 384kbps I chose frame based MPEG2 as the proxy as the original are frame based

Re: x9 Ultimate crashes making proxy files
By checking the "Auto generate" box seems to avoid crashes so far.
It creates a UPX file which is fine however they are quite large files. It reduces the HD file by only a third. I may run out of disc space at this rate. Any way of making the UPX files smaller?

Re: x9 Ultimate crashes making proxy files
Hi Phil
Sorry I do not know of a way of changing the UPX files.
I did set my proxy files to:-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Created Proxy files of my Panasonic MTS files (53), no crashes.
Are you sure it’s the proxy file creation that is causing the crash.
If you edit your clips without proxy files, although playback may be poor, do you have any crashes?

Re: x9 Ultimate crashes making proxy files
No crashes for HD files but my PC is not strong enough to handle HD editing
