Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
I wanted to change the length of a piece of trimmed video. As soon as I move one of the trim markers (as named by the tool tip that displays), VS x9 crashes.
At this point you cannot restart VS x9. You are now in the issue I reported about the streaming error. You have to delete the Ulead Systems folder, loosing all your work space setups.

The trial versions are crippled version of the full retail package and thus have several features missing

Hi,
I am having the same problem. Vs doesn't crash every time I trim a video clip but often enough to cause despair. I am using C VS x9 Ultimate, Service pack 3 and Windows 10.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Hi
Does it happen with all video types including the library samples, or just certain types?
Can you give the properties of your video, right click a clip on the timeline and choose properties, what are they?

Hi
In this project I am using mainly *.m2ts (24 bits,1920*1080,16:9) files. There are some *.MOV files, too. Both types can cause a crash, but not the library samples.

Hi
I noticed one thing; if I do the trimming in the preview window before adding the video clip into the time line, crashing does not happen, not so far anyway.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Hi Guys
It is strange that MTS files are causing this problem, although you would think all MTS would act the same.
Can you make a sample available so I can test on my pc. You would have to upload to a sharing site, I use One Drive but other options are available.
I record using a Panasonic 900 camcorder to create MTS files in 25 and 50 fps ( being a Pal user)
I have uploaded two sample to my One drive for you to test, they work ok for me with no crashes.
I do need Smart Proxy for smoother project playback especially for the 25 fps types.
I use Windows 7 so if you have problems then it may be a Windows 10 issue.
But Brian works with Panasonic video MTS, running windows 10 and has not reported any problems.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Hi Trevor
Thank you for answering.
I could make a sample video but the problem is that the crashing doesn’t happen every time I trim the video clip even when it is exactly the same clip. I tested several times. Your samples did not crash.
When I think back I do not recall having this problem when running C VS x9 on Windows 8. I updated to Windows 10 a week ago and this is the first time I am trying to run C VS x9. So I think this might be a problem connected with C VS working with Windows 10.
I am using Sony DSC-HX90V, Pal. I think that my MTS files are ok, because I have not had a single crash since I started to trim the video clips on the preview window before adding them to the timeline. It is a bit too slow way to work but this way I do not have to wait C VS restarting and recovering the previous project over and over again. (Before I used to add all the video clips on the time line at the same time, then preview and if I notice that some clip has to be trimmed, then just trim it, save and go on. Now this would succeed only occasionally.)
Another interesting thing is which I just discovered is that if I wish to re-trim some time later the video clips which were added to the time line first after trimming or just previewing them on the preview window, the trimming on the time line does not cause C VS to crash any more. Strange but true.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Hi Raikku
Strange that waiting for a while seems to cure the problem.
Are you using Smart Proxy, although it should not affect editing, if you trim while proxy files are being created, maybe that combination causes the crash, just thinking of all possibilities.
Can you provide a sample of the original files.
Not sure but you may be able to upload my One Drive folder.???
And if I get crashes using Windows 7 with CVSX9 SP3 then we should pass the details to Corel.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Hi Lata
Well, it was not exactly the waiting that cured the problem but the order in which things were done. Or to be exact, the problem still exists in these two project files which were created before I found out how to make the trimmings the “right” way.
I have been trying to find maybe a corrupted file that would cause the problem but no luck so far. It would be easier if VS would collapse every time I trim a video clip on the time line but it doesn’t. It may be the first, the second or even the fifth trim. These files which you soon can hopefully find on your one drive can be trimmed ok if I join them in a new project. When they are a part of a VSP project which I started while still running Windows 8 and completing it now running Windows 10, they can cause a collapse when trimming, or again, not. I think I have tried everything now. Because the crashes are not consistent and not happening every time on the same spot it is really hard to try to figure what is wrong, the length of the project (only 12 min., cannot be), the music (no), the different file types (img, mov, mp4, mts, maybe too much), having to resize one video clip (maybe) or all these together or just some mysterious something.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Hi
Thanks for the samples, no problem so far, have been trimming away using the timeline to trim, also the Trim Bar and Mark-in Mark – Out options.
So far no crashes.
As for File types Jpeg images saved as Progressive rather than Baseline can cause some problems
Mov or Mp4 can be troublesome, especially from Iphones / tablets etc.
MP3 audio files using the Lame codec should be avoided, convert to Wav
Difficult to id when the crashes are so random.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Hi
So I seem to have a lot of possible ”trouble makers” in these two projects. I tested the projects with and without them but it did not seem to make any difference.
Thank you so much for your advice. Now I know what to try avoiding in the future.

Re: Moving the trim markers crashes VS x9
Thinking outside the box really
Just another source of random crashes is the library when corrupt files are used there.
That is of course very difficult to prove.
Crashes may occur at random when editing, who would look at the library.
But if you use the library to store a lot of files then it can cause issues if those files are suspect.
Go to Settings Library manager – Export Library to create a backup, create a new on the desktop.
Then Settings – Library Manager Reset Library
See how things go
You can always restore libraries Settings Library Manager Import library.
