I'm working on a project that will have the following components intended to be distributed on a disk:
1 - a logo clip
2 - an introduction clip
3 - 3 action clips
with a menu.
The clips have all been rendered from individual project files, and imported as video files into the burner module. Because the cameras have recorded the clips in AVCHD/MP4 formats with really good resolution, I'm trying to create/burn the disk in an AVCHD format, in lieu of the mpeg/DVD format I've used in the past. And that's led me to find what might be a bug in the Share/disk/AVCHD/burner module for X9. Specifically, I can't cause the check box for an "introductory clip" (the 1st one in the composition, the logo clip) in the 'add media' stage to be ticked, and as a result the logo clip shows as the 1st item in the menu when I progress to the menu and preview step. Screenshot follows:
Is there something I've missed here, or is this truly a bug?

Re: Disk menu bug with AVCHD files?
Hi David
I think it may be a problem with the burner module, I checked X7 and that allowed for Introductory Video, X6 and X8 was same as X9 not allowing Introductory video?

Re: Disk menu bug with AVCHD files?
As a footnote, this only seems to occur when you are trying to make an AVCHD disc. If making either a DVD or Blu-Ray disc, the 'use first clip as introductory video' option is active and available.

Re: Disk menu bug with AVCHD files?
Hi Ken, Trevor,
Yes, it does seem to be specific to burning AVCHD formated discs using (at least) X8 and X9. I have only those 2 versions installed now, for space reasons. Prior versions X5, X6, and X7 all available from DVD's of the downloaded files and license keys for each.
I've tested both versions with Blu-ray selected, and both allow the introductory clip to be selected. So clearly it is a bug that at least the administrators and others users know of.
The significance of this is the availability of disks. One needs a blu-ray player for both AVCHD and blu-ray in a PC or a home entertainment system, but if a blu-ray disk is not available then stock standard DVD disks are all that is left. And standard DVD disks are a dime-a-dozen in supermarkets and video stores and AVCHD files can be burnt to them, albeit with space limitations. However, whilst blu-ray is a later and more capable format, so it seems logical to use that instead. BUT, if the disks are not available, then that argument goes down the gurgler. And blu-ray disks to burn files in that format have become as scarce as gold-plated chickens teeth here in oz. The retail chains just don't have them any more, and even finding them on-line is an exercise in frustration. Why? no idea.
I have also noted that brand name new and some recent past versions of camcorders and video capable cameras are defaulting their video formats to AVCHD - which is pretty idiotic if there isn't a capacity to burn them in that format using a 'leading' video editor. Just guess what their service depts are going to say about any complaints about the camera format? "Get a new editor" - politely - would seem to be high on the list.
So, IMHO this is a serious bug that Corel should not only be appraised of but issue a fix for reasonably quickly. Would one of the administrators care to make that point using your back channels to Corel?

But of course VS can burn an AVCHD disc with menu -- just not one with your preferred introductory video. But I'll draw it to Corel's attention.Davidk wrote:I have also noted that brand name new and some recent past versions of camcorders and video capable cameras are defaulting their video formats to AVCHD - which is pretty idiotic if there isn't a capacity to burn them in that format using a 'leading' video editor.
I guess it has to do with people now simply putting their videos on USB sticks or external hard drives, and playing them that way. BD blank discs have always been nearly impossible to find here in New Zealand, and very expensive. In fact I order mine on-line from Australia; and also get them delivered to friends in Sydney or Melbourne who are planning to visit me. I've got quite a stockpile, but like most people these days, I rarely burn a Blu-Ray disc (and stopped making AVCHD discs years ago...)And blu-ray disks to burn files in that format have become as scarce as gold-plated chickens teeth here in oz. Re: Disk menu bug with AVCHD files?
Hmmmm. I probably wasn't specific enough about the disk contents and the target audience.
Class projects once finished are distributed on disk - with a menu for everyone's effort: 4 participants means 4 menu items. And like most movie makers the class has a simple production logo. And (possibly as a result of that) some class members cite their results in a unique way. One lady student calls her efforts "old duck productions".
But disk availability is the controlling theme in this small story.

I was unaware of this issue till your post, like Ken it has been a long time since using AVCHD discs and even so I don't think I have ever used Introductory video option even for DVD.
Once I read your post I checked video studio to confirm your findings, then launched older versions to find X7 worked ok.
I then spent some time trying to find the file that affects Introductory video selection with the idea of copying from X7
Anyway Ken has passed this to Corel, thanks for that. (got to keep then busy)
