Hi--its dragging from Windows Explore that causes the crash, dragging from the library works ok

It would seem that "short cuts" although totally acceptable, cause the crashes. I guess you will have tried "introducing" the audio files in the approved manner and this works OK.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi Terfyn

There are many ways to perform actions on a pc, none are wrong, just personal preference.
Drag and Drop from Windows Explorer is one approach, it did work ok till SP3.
For those who use that option its now a problem, they should not have to change their methods just because the program does not perform correctly, I am sure Corel will fix this.

I must admit I have use Drag and Drop in the past for Jpeg images, now crashes the program, it is all types not just video.

Lets be clear. I'm not suggesting otherwise but the programmers had a process in mind which, you could call, the formal process. If you bypass this process then errors may occur. As programmes evolve then these "shortcuts" are incorporated in the logic and will work until there is a change in direction for the programming. The recent Microsoft updates are an example of this.
However the programmers cannot predict peoples "personal preference", they can only react. The fact that Nick had noted the problem, presumably, will mean a solution will be forthcoming.

What we do see in the Forum are situations where a certain user's "personal preference" does not work and the result is it must be all Corel's fault.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

The Corel VideoStudio X9 User Guide states the following about adding video clips:

There are several ways of inserting video clips to the Timeline:
• Select a clip in the Library and drag it to the Video Track or Overlay Track. Multiple clips can be selected by pressing [Shift].
• Right-click a clip in the Library and select Insert To: Video Track or Insert To: Overlay Track.
Select one or more video files in Windows Explorer and drag them to the Video Track or Overlay Track.
• To insert a clip from a file folder directly to the Video Track or Overlay Track, right-click the Timeline, select Insert Video and locate the video to use.

Terfyn wrote:the programmers had a process in mind which, you could call, the formal process. If you bypass this process then errors may occur.
Be that as it may, "Select one or more video files in Windows Explorer and drag them to the Video Track or Overlay Track" is a FORMAL PROCESS and it is now broken. This process is not some obscure "personal preference".

Sometimes programmers break features and QA doesn't catch it but excusing that by having a fanboy attitude towards a product helps neither the product nor the product's users.

fanboy? This is grossly offensive but I accept it is typical of people who complain about a product as soon as something does not go quite right. I suggest you take a positive attitude to help sort the product out instead of criticising.

Dear Terfyn: You asserted that my practice for more than a decade of dragging and dropping from Windows Explorer was a "shortcut", and when you were exposed by a quotation from the Corel Users Guide it made you angry. I suggest you carefully read what you wrote in your "Let's be clear" post and, if you can be objective, you will see that all you did was aggressively defend Corel's programmers and condemn users who report errors in programming. I don't think anything you said contributes to a solution of any problem. Please prove your maturity by not responding to this. Let's stick to reporting problems and observations of process behavior that might work toward solutions.

Hot Fix for Drag and Drop

Post by lata »

Hi Guys

Corel have provided a Hot Fix for the Drag & Drop issue.
Download the appropriate file 64 bit or 32 bit versions are available.

First I made a copy of the original file by renaming the file to vstudio_old.exe

vstudio.exe x64 version:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BytZc ... 3lxbVFjRW8

vstudio.exe x86 version
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BytZc ... 3l1Tm1yVFk

Steps:
1. Close VideoStudio
2. Download the vstudio.exe (which matches the version (x64 or x86) you have installed)
3. Replace vstudio.exe in VideoStudio program folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9\vstudio.exe)
4. Launch VideoStudio to verify this problem.

Thank to Yvonne at Corel

O.k. "Drag-and-drop" is now in function, but there are new problems:

In the ScreenCap-programm the mouse-animation is not in function and "F10" (to end the screen-recording) does not work.

Hi solarkritek

I have just re-installed CVSX9 to run SP2, that works ok with Screen Capture.

It the moment I cannot test with SP3, hopefully others can replicate the problem.
Can you report this to Corel Support, maybe via their facebook account or the Chat Now option?

thanks

Mouse animation does work although I cannot as yet, find a use for it, whilst recording I found that nothing shows when clicking the mouse but when the recording is played back
each location clicked on shows a blue spot for a second then disappears.VSX8 gives exactly the same results
Using F10 to stop recording works correctly
