Corel's poor record in managing version control is again demonstrated.

The 9.5 update this month (July) would be - according to the version data Brian stated in his release notice - service pack 5 (2nd digit in help about version is 5). But so far no one has called it that.

But since that update 9.5 release notice, one of my machines running X9 sp3 at version 19.3.0.18 started displaying that annoying service pack 3 notice when X9 was started. A lot of us commented on/ranted about it a few months back because we thought that sp3 was already installed: more bad - Corel had changed the pack but did not change the name. So, once more I checked the Corel support pages and there was a late dated (June) sp3 version there. So I downloaded and installed, and guess what? the version number updated to 19.3.0.19.

That makes (counting the ***-up earlier in the year when sp3 was first released) 3 versions of service pack 3 distributed by Corel officially. When we last commented on this, did anyone (NICK you listening?) pass on to the managers concerned the stuff ups that they were causing by not managing this right? seems not.

I have installed CVS X9.5.
It's running and DnD is running, too !! miracle ??!!

But now a new old bug appears in CVS X9.5 which appeared in former times in CVS X4 ::

I can't import .avi-files !! I have to convert these files in .mp4. Then I can import the file.
I'm using "VIDEOSTUDIO" since 2005: using since Ulead 5+6+7 -->> COREL VIDEO STUDIO 10+11+12+14+15+17+19+19.5+20 WIN 10

Which sort of AVI files won't import: all of them or just a certain type? I ask since as you probably know there are over 800 different video formats which use the .avi wrapper extension. These can vary widely, from uncompressed .avi which is huge, to highly compressed formats like DivX/XVid...

The same type of .AVI files I have imported since the last 7 years. The .avi-files from http://www.onlinetvrecorder.com
Only in two times I have problems with these files: In 2013 when I wanted to use CVX X4 and now with CVS X9.5. In CVS X5 the problem was solved, and now in CVS X9.5 the bug of the .avi-files is real again.

That still doesn't tell us what its exact Properties are. I looked at that website, and though I clicked on the English button, it didn't provide much English content, and I could not see anything in German which might have indicated the exact nature of the codec used in its recordings.

I sometimes download from OTR and have never had a problem with any avi files. Could you give a link to a problem avi file? I could download it and test it.

solarkritik: If you need analytic software, I still use the 9-year old GSpot, available at http://gspot.headbands.com/ It might give you data Ken can use. You just drag an .avi file into it and it shows all sorts of data. If anyone knows of newer software for this, please share.

I am downloading that Morgenmagazin file right now and will test with VS X9.5. I assume you downloaded the HQ version?

I am also downloading the following shows since they are available in 3 different formats (and will test tem also):

Thanks, Ken! It certainly is 9 years better! I am particularly impressed and thrilled with the cursor-hover-reveal function. Amazing!

I have downloaded each of the avi files and have no problem inserting them into a VS X9.5 project. All videos play correctly.
Below is a picture of the file solarkritic has problems adding into a project

Great thanks, canuck, for testing the .avi-files.
Now, I imported the avi-file a second time, and good news: now the .avi-import is working.
I have had more patience, because the .avi-file of "ARD Morgenmagazin" is 1,6 GB and the import take a while.
A second time: great thanks, canuck, for testing my .avi-problem. great job of canuck
