I am using PSP X8. I want to make a webpage header with 3 or 4 different images side by side, but I want each image to blend gently across to the next image so that there is no hard join line between them, to make a professional-looking single image. All the methods I have tried, Layers, Blending, Blurring etc don't seem to work well.
Can someone please advise me of the best way to achieve what I want?
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Blending side by side images
You could feather one side of one image that would be placed on top of the other one.
Did you try that?

Yes, but it was not a smooth blend. I understand that it can be done using a Gradient layer but I'm not sure how to do this.

You can add a mask layer and fill it with a white to black gradient. Depending on the size of your image, it might work just as is.

Re: Blending side by side images
Again, depending on the size of the image, here is a little tutorial to get soft edges:

Re: Blending side by side images
Do you want each image
1) to show in its totality with only losses at the soft join, or do you want
2) half of each image to be replaced by the other?
eg starting with these two images:

to produce:
A) Side by side with most of each image showing

This was done by overlapping the images , duplicating the bottom layer and then using a soft eraser
Or
B)Only half of each image showing

This was using a selection with a large feather and then deleting

This was done using a black white mask with a small blend in the middle.

Re: Blending side by side images
Thanks guys for all the useful information.
I'll probably go with the mask method.

Just noticed this query- probably too late but for future reference we have a dedicated tool for this. It's called Blender and can blend at any angle, amount or in almost any shape. Best of all - it is now available for free - http://www.plugincreativity.net/products/blender.shtml
Apart from basic blends it also lets you create circular blends, creative edges, frames - loads of stuff. You can even add blends to existing blends.
