Edge effects turns graphic white

Post by Belle »

I am working with a PSP x7 tutorial and have run into a snag. One of the steps is: effects > edge > find all. This turns all the edges black and removes the graphic, leaving white space. I can't proceed to the next step, which is Effects>Texture Effects>Rough Leather. All that shows up is white. Is there a bridge or extra step between x7 and x8 that keeps this from happening?

Thank you, oh great swamis who might know.

Would be good to have a link to the tutorial so we can see the preceding steps and test it out without the added expense of consulting a clairvoyant.
In the meantime I took a jpg image and used Effects> Edge Effects > Find All and this produced a black and white line drawing with the rest of the image appearing white with some shades of grey.
Applied Effects > Texture Effects > Rough Leather and parts of the gray areas showed a toughened leathery effect.
Try it with a number of different pictures to make sure it is not just subject failure. ie you have chosen a picture / image that won't show the effect well.

Here's the link for the tutorial. Steps 4-7 are where I'm having trouble. Thank you so much for your help!

Note that that tutorial is written for PSP7 not PSP X7. There are 10 versions between that tutorial version and the X7 you are using so some commands have changed and that is why you are getting the white.

I have PSP8 and even that is a bit different to PSP7 but was still able to work through some of it.

Some corrections or changes:

Step 2 Should be Effects > Distortion Effects > Pixellate

Change Step 4 Effects > Edge Effects >Enhance More (Do not do Go to Effects>Edge>Find All.

Step 6 Effects > Distortion Effects > Warp and repeat

Step 9 bring up your second previously minimised orb and copy and paste that over your first image (two layers now becomes 3)

This tutorial gets confusing from here because the images and layers have not been named correctly to help in makung sure which image and layer is being referred to.

I stopped at this point , hope that has helped somewhat and good luck to you for having the patience to continue further.

I think Step 7: (a) Go to Effects>Edge>Find Horizontal Edges. (b) Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Rough Leather is impossible with all the versions between the original tutorial and x8 software. So...I cheated and copied that step's image from the tutorial, resized it and used it for steps 7 and 8. I managed to get the graphic finished, but not under my own steam.

Even with the glitches in some of the tutorials, there is still a ton of great information in them.

Thank you again for your help with this. I really appreciate it. :D
