Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
Wow! I wonder whether they will move to integrate their own video programs with the Sony ones; and if so, how long that might take...

Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
Lets hope that this does not give Corel any ideas about amalgamating Video Studio and Pinnacle into one product

Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
VS and PS can't be unite as they have totally different philosophy.
I had very short experience with Magix and vegas in the past, I think they do have many common things.
If this forum is of any indication of users span than it has larger threads volume compare to the PS one

Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
I have Magix and never bothered with Sony at all. It's personal thing for me. I don't care for it. Magix had Mercalli 4.
Side note. Usually, in a forum are posts about problems and hopeful resolutions. Or help questions. A forum where people are doing "ok" usually don't post. Too busy editing.

Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
Apparently Magix has taken on some, but not all, the Sony video team, and are promising new versions of Vegas and Movie Studio later this year. The Catalyst range of pro products will continue to be developed by Sony.

Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
It does take guts for Sony to sell of Vegas and Movie Studio to start from "scratch" and build a new from the ground up editor. It will certainly make use of all the new hardware and coding and not have to worry about building on old code. I think they realized there is only so much that can be done before you have to start over. Apple did it with FCPX.
I wonder if old code gets in the way of any real improvements..... along with trying to keep "legacy" still alive.

Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
I think that was indeed very much in their thinking -- apart from the other streamlining they have been doing with their business overall, consolidating it into just a few core elements.TonyP wrote:I think they realized there is only so much that can be done before you have to start over.
I know you have avoided Movie Studio, but I rather like it. It follows the working procedure for Vegas so requires a bit of a learning curve but nowhere near as much as Vegas itself. (I had even bought a version of Vegas just around the time Sony took it over but the learning curve was too much for me at that time.) And I particularly like the fact that I can throw just about any format at it and they all work. It also comes with slightly older versions of Sound Forge and DVD Architect, which add to its attractiveness. Mind you, Vegas itself originally was just an afterthought development on from Sound Forge...
As for old code crippling new technology/thinking, I suspect we all know deep in our hearts that Video Studio has been a victim of this for quite a few versions now...

Re: S.Vegas goes to Magix
Yeah, I really believe this is the case. How many times can you fix something that is how old by trying to continue to build on it? Mind you, for "me" VS is pretty stable. And stability is most important to me. I understand there has to be something "new" to generate more income. But without a stable, smooth operating product, the newest "bling" means nothing to me.
Vegas and Edius have been known to take any video format in stride.
How many times can Corel go to the "well" with core coding as old as this? I guess we will find out one day.
I wonder if Corel will come out with something totally new.
I can dream.....
