The image selected in the Organise palette is the image that will open in Adjust, irrespective of the active image being edited.

if you open three images in Edit then choose to edit the first tab the organiser still shows the third as selected, that will open in Adjust.
Thanks for the info. Not very intuitive, is it? So I've now found out that, after opening several images and then editing one of them, if I want that image to open in Adjust to add some preset adjustments I first have to go to the Organizer and highlight that image, then click the Adjust tab, save the image when prompted, and then the edited and saved image will open in Adjust while all the other images in Edit will close. Not that it's something I would do because I don't use Adjust, but for those who do it's really not intuitive at all.

And I agree that there seems to be no reason at all for other images open in Edit to have to close just because you want to use Adjust on one of them.

With these problems in the transfers to Edit > Adjust I cannot see any need to use Adjust at all .

All of the Instant effects are available in Edit mode so you do not need to go back to adjust to use any of those.

The organiser palette is available the same way in all three modes.

Adjust does have instant access to Smart Photo Fix White Balance, Brightness and Contrast (but not Levels which I use often), Fill Light /Clarity, Vibrance, Local Tone Mapping, High Pass Sharpen, Digital Noise Removal.

But then you can get that and others by setting up a customised toolbar once and have all those features and more in Edit mode and give Adjust mode the shaft.

Agreed. Corel likely added the Adjust mode (whenever they did so) to make it look like they were adding a new feature, when in fact all they were doing was grouping some features already existing in Edit mode in another window. It's all marketing. :-) Your suggestion about grouping that stuff - and more - on a custom toolbar makes a lot more sense, and much more easily accessible than switching to Adjust mode and having PSP close everything else you have open in your workspace.

I must say I'm impressed and pleasantly surprised at all the feedback my question generated. In answer to Joe's question, I'm using version 18.2.0.61 x64. Based on the comment that it is not a problem to go from right to left (Manage, adjust edit), I opened the program and tried open a file from the manage mode, the file (picture) comes up briefly in Manage and within 3 seconds the program switches to Edit. However, if you open a picture or photo by using the grey Collections/Computer button it seems to work correctly in both directions. Still a bug particularly since most people will click on the "file" menu because that is the norm. Anyone know if this is the way its supposed to work?

Thanks All

Hi

Although I have X4 and X7 I do not use the program as much as I should, so a little rusty in what it can and should do.

The Manage option launches by default when first running the program, can be changed in Preferences. So for the new user that’s gonna show first.
The Manage is simply a full screen “Organiser” whereas the others Adjust and Edit have a single row.

I find the Manage panel quite useful as double clicking any thumbnail opens an image viewer, and I can switch to Edit from there.
From Manage I can choose single or multiple clips to open in Edit.

The Adjust seems to be a simple editor allowing the user to apply Smart Photo Fix without getting confused with all the other features provided by the Edit option, there are other effects available in Adjust.
But I am sure is very useful for the new and maybe inexperienced PSP user, after all its just a learning curve.

The Edit is the program in full and will take a while to get used to all its features.

Switching from Edit to Adjust is the only drawback, and closing the Edit images is the problem as I see it.

But there is no right or wrong way to proceed just personal preference, I have to say I am getting used to the Manager as a means of browsing my hard drive for my images.
Rarely am I using Edit- File Open

Thanks to everyone who responded. Very impressive. I think I've solved the riddle at least for me. If I open a file by selecting the file menu, there is a prob switching from one mode to the other. If I use the collections icon, then there is no problem navigating from one mode to the other. I look forward to working with this group on more complicated issues if they pop up in the future.

Really you can get most of what is in Adjust when in Edit mode by opening the Palettes > Instant Effects and using Enhance Photo > Smart Photo Fix.
Thanks, that is what I was looking for. :P
