Switching between manage adjust and edit
When I open a picture in one mode and switch to one of the others it goes away rather than staying open. So I have to open it again. I just downloaded the SW so it is up to date. I've tried it several times and it happens regardless of which mode I start in. Its not supposed to work this way and this is unacceptable. Is there a simple fix?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Full disclosure - I don't use Manage or Adjust but I have heard others discuss the situation you describe and to answer your question there currently is no simple fix. Sounds like a good wish list item.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Hi
Seems to work ok for me.
I do not have X8 but X7 in Manage does open the selected image when clicking Edit tab
The Adjust option seems to be a simple editor using the Smart Photo Fix, but even so the selected image does open in Edit, at least that’s what I see.
Multiple images also open, can be a bit of a pain when you forgot to deselect them, if you do not intent to open multiple images.
Kathy...even though you do not use Manage or Adjust does it work for you? that is selected images in Manage or Adjust open when moving to Edit?

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
I have X4 and X7 active on my machine.
In X4, from the beginning, any images open in the Edit tab were closed (and asked if changes were to be saved if an image had been edited) if I clicked on the Manage tab.
This does not happen in X7. Images in the Edit space remain open if I go to the Manage space. I have no experience with the Adjust tab that I can remember. So my X7 behaves as it should.
So if you're experiencing closing of images when changing workspace from Manage to Edit or vice versa in X8, it's not a wish list item, it's a bug or corruption in your program.
Lata, if I have an image selected in Manage, it opens when I go to the Edit tab, in both X4 and X7.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Images stay open for me in X8 and X7 regardless of which tabs I switch between or the state of editing of any images. Ansel, I note you have Windows 7 operating system. Some people have had issues with a couple of the patches to X8 particularly on a WIN 7 machine. What is the version number of your X8 (that is, which patches do you have installed)? Perhaps a patch is causing the bug for you.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Let's say you open two images through the Manage tab and go to Edit. In Edit, you decide you need another image or two, return to Manage with its 20 thumbnails and large preview to find what you want. When PSP closes the two first images when you switch tabs, you have to save them first if you've edited anything, and have to open them again too along with the new ones you needed.Kathy_9 wrote:... They close if I try going right to left; for example, from Edit to Adjust. If I do that the image closes. I don't know why someone would want to go in that direction...
It's strange if X8 closes the images again, because X7 (mine anyway) leaves them open, as was an often requested feature at least with X4 users, which closed Edit tab images too, when going back to Manage. I don't know which version got changed first, X5, X6 or X7.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
I'm afraid I'm either not understanding this, or not seeing what you're seeing. I opened 2 images in X8 (SP1 and SP2) using Manage to select them then Edit. In Edit mode I made some editing changes to both images, leaving them open and unsaved. I clicked the Manage tab and selected 2 different images, then hit the Edit tab. The two new images opened in Edit mode and the two images I had originally opened and edited were still there also. So when you say "When PSP closes the two first images when you switch tabs,..." are you saying that when you switch to the Manage tab after editing your first 2 images that PSP wants to close them? As I said, I don't get that happening on my Windows 8.1 system.Forriner wrote:Let's say you open two images through the Manage tab and go to Edit. Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
I have the same results as Joe has BUT if I go from Edit to Adjust then it wants to close any other images including any unedited ones. PSP 18.1
Really you can get most of what is in Adjust when in Edit mode by opening the Palettes > Instant Effects and using Enhance Photo > Smart Photo Fix.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Just to be clear:
Windows 7 and PSP X4, files open in Edit tab are closed by PSP when switching away from the Edit tab to Manage tab.
Windows 7 and PSP X8, files open in Edit tab are left open by PSP when switching away from the Edit tab to Manage tab.
So I assumed that somewhere between X4 and X7 Corel had changed that strange behaviour of closing files, and now it seems to be back for some people in X8.
Maybe resetting the program (shift-click the shortcut to start PSP) would help X8 get bak to 'normal' behaviour?

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Hi
I have just installed X8 trial and this is what I see.
Multiple Images open in Edit remain open when switching to Manage
Multiple Images open in Edit close when switching to Adjust, the active image remains selected, any images with effects/adjusts applied will prompt to save before closing.
The problem seems to be associated with Adjust option, I do not think the images should close in Edit, although only one image can be open in Adjust at one time.
Maybe the Adjust should have a Tabbed Documents option which would allow multiple images being opened there?
For me PSP X7 reacts the same as PSP X8 trial.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Yes, from Edit to Adjust PSP closes open files in X7 too. From Adjust to Edit you have to save the Adjust tab edits if you want to edit the image further in Edit tab.
Why not make a custom toolbar with the Adjust tab options for use in the Edit tab, if you like the work flow in Adjust? That gives you more flexibility and editing options outside of those options. The interface is totally different, but you could get used to that.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Yes, Trevor, now I see the behavior as you describe it. Not sure why I didn't catch that earlier with going to Adjust from Edit. Trying it out now with several images I'm finding the behavior quite incomprehensible when going to adjust from Edit with multiple images open in Edit and one of them actually edited. PSP does close the non-edited images and asks to save the edited one, after which the Adjust tab becomes active. However, if the edited image was the image I had focus on when I hit the Adjust tab, I would have expected that I would save that image with edits, and then Adjust would open with the edited version of that image so that I could use the Adjust presets for further work on that image. However, that's not the case. One of the other images opens in Adjust instead. So I thought perhaps the image that had focus immediately prior to giving the edited image focus would be the one that opened in Adjust. But that's not necessarily the case either. So on what basis does PSP decide which image of the multiple images that it closed is the one that will open if you go from Edit to Adjust?
I don't ever use the Adjust tab so it's not really a problem for me but I just did my limited experimentation out of curiosity and for the time being will move on to other stuff.

Re: Switching between manage adjust and edit
Hi JoeB
The image selected in the Organise palette is the image that will open in Adjust, irrespective of the active image being edited.
if you open three images in Edit then choose to edit the first tab the organiser still shows the third as selected, that will open in Adjust.
