I would like to set the frame rate for a set of clips in a project to something very small, like 3 or so, as an effect (sort of like a strobe light effect). If the source video clip was filmed in 30 fps, is there a way to get Corel (Videostudio ultimate x9) to reduce it?
I don't see anything in the manual about it. The project frame rate options only go as low as 24, and again, I want this just applied to certain clips. Does this mean I have to shoot the source video (for these particular clips) in 3 fps? In that case, if the project fps is set to 30, does Corel just duplicate the frames of these 3 fps clips 9 times each so that the clip appears to play at the same speed, or does it just play the frames at a rate 10x as fast? Obviously I have little to zero education on these matters.
I have a camera app on my android phone (which I will be using to film) which allows me to change the frame rate to 3 fps, but when I play it back, it looks normal (I haven't tried importing it into Corel yet).
Thanks in advance for any insight,

Re: Adjusting frame rate for a clip?
Naturally I figured this out as soon as I posted the question. The time lapse tool can be used to produce a strobe effect. I'm also hip to the news (from another thread) that this doesn't work on ultimate x9. Does anyone know if this is being fixed by Corel or how to find out?

What doesn't work exactly when using VS X9 Ultimate? Can you post the link to the thread?

Unfortunately this bug was not correct since X8.fingerbreaker wrote:Naturally I figured this out as soon as I posted the question. The time lapse tool can be used to produce a strobe effect. There is another strobe motion in FX but I didn't manage to set it correctly.

Re: Adjusting frame rate for a clip?
If all you want to do is speed up the action then surely the easiest way is to use the "variable speed" option - just making sure you set the key frame at each end of the clip to the same value - forget the time lapse option

Hi fingerbreaker
The timelapse option will increase playback speed by removing frames, or decrease playback speed by duplicating frames.
This will affect the overall length of your clip.
If that is what you want then it will work.
There is a Frame Frequency option that creates a strobe effect, it retains the same duration by effectively duplicating some frames and removing other frames.
It is this option that does not work for X8 or X9 but was functional using X7.
Corel are aware of this problem, hopefully a fix will be provided.
