Problem creating DVD folders

Post by eclipse »

I am using VS Pro X5 to create DVD folders. The source material is Hi-8 video converted to AVI with a Canopus A to D converter. I ran the AVI file through Cinemacraft to create the MPEG2 stream. It is lower field first, 720x480, 4:3, 29.97 FPS with a 8000 kbps VBR. I opened VS, unchecked "enable widescreen," and added the file. But when I go to the share/ create disc / DVD and check the project settings, the box on top (titled "MPEG properties for file conversion") says upper field first; all other listed properties match the source material. So I changed the "field type" from UFF to LFF and made sure that "do not convert compliant MPEG files" is checked. But when I go to "burn" the folders, it progresses very slowly, as though it is re-encoding the entire video, which I am trying to avoid. Am I missing something?

Hi
If you have a DVD compliant Mpeg2 video file then….

1 / Go to Preferences F6 – tick Show Messages when …
2 / Start a new project
3 / Add your video to the timeline, should get a message to match the video file, assuming the video file is indeed DVD compliant.
4 / Choose details , copy and paste the right hand panel to your post, now choose Yes Ok, Project Properties match video files properties
5 / Delete the video file from the timeline, nothing on the timelines.
6 / Go to Share Create Disc DVD, opens the burner module.
7 / top left for Add Media Add Video file, choosing your Mpeg2 file.
8 /Make sure that "do not convert compliant MPEG files" is checked.
9 / On the last page choose to Create Disc Image Iso
10 /when you press burn the process should start with Convert Menu, if you see convert Title then you are converting there Mpeg2 again, not what you want and should not be required.
11/ Play the ISO using VLC Media Player to check quality.
12 / Burn Iso to disc using Tools – Burn from Disc Image.

That worked a treat. Thanks! After reading your instructions, I recalled that I had to do something similar (i.e., go to share on a blank timeline, then add the video file) the last time I did this (using VS 9 back in 2009!).
