PSP X8 Activation Woes - help please?

I have a new laptop, and bought PSP X7 less than two years ago. Have the receipt and everything.
I've downloaded PSPX8 (regular - not ultimate, don't need all that!) and I've bought the $45 upgrade, have the License Key on the receipt, and found the serial number of the trial (hidden IMHO) in the system info under 'About' and have tried numerous (too many?) times to activate it upon exit from the program, as directed.
All I get now are error messages - ONCE I got a sign-in/register screen, tried logging in but apparently had bad password or somesuch (I also have been stuck in log-in/password hell with Corel)
Any ideas how to get this thing activated and not need to deal with it during the week (since Corel doesn't see fit to offer phone customer service on the weekends?)

That's somewhat confusing Barney - what has the trial got to do with any thing - if you had X7 on your laptop working then all you needed to do was pay for the upgrade - download and install it and use the Licence Key supplied

You said you have a new laptop and bought X7 2 years ago. You did not say whether or not you installed X7 on your new laptop. I believe that it would have to be installed first if you want to use the Upgrade version of X8.

I'm sorry, I was trying to keep it concise - too concise probably. I only installed the newer, X8 on my new laptop. Do I have to uninstall 8, install and activate 7 first? Is it because I bought upgrade rather than full? That's what I get for trying to save a few bucks;-/

Let me ask this - I'm entirely willing to download X7 and activate it - but do I need to uninstall X8 trial first? Also, after I activate X7, then how do I proceed with the upgrade of X8? It will "know" I have 7 on the machine I presume?

You did not say X7 was not on your laptop

when the upgrade installs it is first looking for proof that you have a previous version - if it cannot find a previous version it asks you to provide proof that you have - so the first request for a serial number is for the X7 number not some arbitrary trial number

That makes sense. So once I download/install X7, then go to activate X8, I can plug in old serial number, new license key, it'll activate - and I can uninstall X7. Is that correct?

Or - and I don't want to make a simple answer not simple - do I just need the SERIAL NUMBER for the X7? (I probably have to install/activate it to have that number right?) (In other words, to I have to have X7 installed to have that serial number? I presume it's not a combo of old/new license keys that would spare me the X7 install?) One of the most confusing things about all this is -- IS the serial number the same as the License Key?

Not only are you being too concise, you are being confusing.

First, you said you purchased the upgrade version of X8. If you purchased it why are you saying you have an X8 trial version? Did you first download a full Trial version before purchasing the Upgrade version? If so, you should uninstall the X8 trial version because there should be no need for it.

Second, you said you purchased X7 a couple of years ago. If you have X7 why would you need to download it again rather than just install the version you have already purchased? Did you delete your purchased version?

All that said, if you have purchased the upgrade version of X8, then first you should uninstall the X8 Trial version if it is the full Trial version you downloaded and not the Upgrade that you purchased. Then you need to have X7 installed on the new laptop. You use the X7 installation you purchased 2 years ago and the licence key that came with it (yes, that's the serial number). Then you install the purchased Upgrade version of X8.

Alright, let me step through it again. I had an activated X7 on my old laptop. I downloaded it, didn't buy the DVD - I buy my software electronically. I bought my new laptop, installed the X8 trial, then went online and paid $45 for the upgrade to activate X8. So once I unsinstall X8, install and activate X7, then ... download/install the purchased version of X8? OK I think I see a path. So sorry to have been confusing.

You should not need to install X7 - you just need to put the X7 serial number in at the start of the X8 install

Un-install every thing to do with X8 and start again using only the download you paid for

OK, uninstalled, reinstalled it from the just-purchased link, plugged in the new upgrade License Key - and it didn't even ASK for the old X7 serial no./key! But it looks like it's now legit without 'buy now' in the corner. Thank you kind sirs for your assistance! (Maybe if I did this more often than once every 2-3 years I wouldn't end up down a messed-up situation like that;-)
