MSP7 & AC3

Post by barneyman »

First, apologies if this is a noob question, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere ...

Can MSP7 create 5.1 ? The blurb in the "What's New" says 'Allows users to create 5.1 Surround Sound Tracks' but then the trial goes cold ...

Would a nice soul point me at an FAQ that explains how I can do the above pls ?

Any help greatly appreciated

Where did you see that? Could you provide a link? I didn't notice it on the "What's New" page at Ulead.

Now it gets suspicious, in a 'dropped feature' sort of way :( - the link here only says Encode Dolby Audio, on the strength of this I bought it ... the WhatsNew in the actual product help says 5.1

spanners! May be time for a CC refund ..... :(

I was under the sam impression when I first bought MSP 7.0. The answer was that it only did ac-3 2.0 not 5.1. However, I have noticed something interesting in service pack 2. I think service pack two will retain a 5.1 ac-3 channel that is imported. For example, if you are cutting scenes in a ripped DVD with ac-3 5.1, it will retain the 5.1. I am trying this as we speak. I will let you know for sure later today when I check the file.

Nope, service pack two doesn't allow a 5.1 audio file either. It will import and allow you to edit the file, but will encode it as 2.0 ac3 only.

To support Dolby Digital 5.0 will require software ISVs to pay more license fees to Dolby Labs.

Maybe it will be supported in the future.

Let's hope it's soon eh ? Surround sound is becoming ubiquitous, and 5.1 too - my loungeroom system here supports 7.1

As noted by others for now it's a liscensing issue. A good example of this is Premiere Pro, which requires a $250 plugin to have Dolby 5.1 support.
