This is kind of an old theme for me, been dealing with audio problems since X7. Trevor and Brian will know.
Specifics on problem today is MTS and MP4 in X9 Pro in clips or project plays audio with a low gurgling or low blip sounds if I have recorded music. I mostly record musical performances. This problem is intermittent but throughout the file. I also have same issue with X8.
I also converted an MTS to MPG (assuming it's MPEG2) to see what that did and the audio is worse, totally scratchy.
My work around is to convert MTS that comes from my camera to WMV. WMVs no problem with audio. My OS is Windows 7 Pro. I can continue to convert MTS files but it takes time and it would be great to have X9 work without having to do this for MTS files.
Yesterday what I did was go to our local computer fix guys. Here's what we did:
1. Got upgrades to my video card
2. Got upgrades to audio (that's what computer guy told me he did, I had to leave for a bit)
3. Uninstalled Windows Media Player and reinstalled. It had never worked. This process solved additional problem I've been having of MPEG2 files playing in clips with black video but I could hear audio. The catch was MPEG2 played with good video when as project on the timeline and not played as a clip - go figure.
4. Made sure Codexes were up to date. Camera is XA20 Canon video camera.
The 1-2-3-4 processes above also solved X9 completely crashing with any MPEG4 file from my Android cell phone. This was another problem that started with X9 only. Don't know of the 4 above which one solved that but that is fixed.
I'm not all that good with figuring this stuff out and so had to pay for help. I tried Corel support but they talk to you only via e-mail and ended up asking me to do things that were beyond my knowledge and made me nervous. I am in the middle of 3 paying gigs so can't afford to have computer go down.
I went back to our local computer fix guys this afternoon about the bad audio. It had sounded ok yesterday thru ear buds but when I played it at home with speakers, there it was. Because audio plays fine outside of X9, his determination was that it is the software. I didn't bring my computer in this afternoon to pursue this further however, due to what we had done yesterday that fixed most issues, enough to make me feel better and then because of the hourly cost for his help. Thought I'd try the forum again.
Anyway, any ideas on the audio problem would be very much appreciated. I'm wondering if anyone else has had audio problems like this.
Thanks in advance. My apologies to Trevor and Brian for this old theme.

Re: MTS & MP4 bad audio with X9
Hi Candy
Do you think the problem is with X9 timeline playback and that the rendered files are ok and can be played using other media. If so then your final output files should be ok. Just annoying that you have those clicks from the timelines
As the PC guy seems to have covered all drivers, Graphics and Audio have you tried re-installing Video Studio, maybe that will help. However you do say having problems since X7 so I don’t think all versions of VS has the same issues?

Re: MTS & MP4 bad audio with X9
Hi Trevor: I did an uninstall and reinstall of X9 but that didn't solve the problem.
There must be something I'm missing doing. I'll make sure I've upgraded the firmware on the camera or will talk to Canon when I have a chance. I think I'm the only one with this problem. So weird. If I ever get it fixed, I'll be sure and let you know.
Thanks for your reply. I always appreciate your help.

Re: MTS & MP4 bad audio with X9
Hi Candy
If the camera is the problem then the clicks would show on the original video files, I had assumed that the problem is with Video Studio playback, and playing the original files are ok if using say Windows Media Player, Is that the case…?
If you were to connect the camera direct to TV then that would eliminate the camera, assuming playback is ok.
If you think the originals have problems you could provide us with a sample, we have probably asked before.

Re: MTS & MP4 bad audio with X9
Hi Trevor, I have played the original files outside of X9 both directly from the camera and after downloading them to the computer and they play fine. Audio problem only occurs when played on the timeline or as a clip in X9. Again, WMV files play ok in X9 without audio errors.
Thanks for helping me with this.
