I've been using v.2 of Aftershot Pro for a few months and I've been really happy with it, I had a notification that v.3 was available so I've paid up only to find I now can't see my Pentax RAW (PEF) files in the editing window, I can see the thumbnails but not the big image. v.2 worked (and still works) perfectly but v.3 seems broken to me. I use a Pentax K3 and I'm running on Ubuntu 14.04LTS, has anyone else got a problem?
Seems to be working fine with .pef from Pentax K-5.
However all of the Tamron Lens Calibrations are now gone, and there is no easy way to edit them as previously.
I downloaded the trial. It see's PEF's from my K200D but doesn't see PEF's from my K-3. I opened a support ticket but I can't seem to get them a PEF file from my K-3 to verify the issue. Guess I WON'T be buying Version 3.
I can supply a K3 PEF file but so far Corel haven't asked for one, in fact they don't seem to be interested in my case at all, Ticket (3638657). Their advice seems to revolve around "try re-installing ASP3", what next? Try turning you computer off and on again, or re-installing your operating system? I even dug out a laptop, loaded a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 and in that case ASP3 wouldn't even run at all.
This what I've had them so far:
Hi,
I've done that, same problem.
I have also renamed the config file, restarted ASP3 so it created a new config file and still it won't open PEF images. ASP2 still opens them perfectly. I have also tried removing ASP2, installing ASP3 again and still no support for PEF. A number of people on the forum have the same problem.
Any more suggestions?
Nick

An update: Corel have asked for my camera model, a K3.
I also sent them this:
More information for you.
I created a new folder full of new PEF files, I then imported the contents of that folder into ASP2 and all worked perfectly, I could see and manipulate the files.
I then carried out the same process using new PEF files using ASP3, ASP3 could see the folder but failed to import the files.
I then checked with ASP2, it could see the folder created by ASP3 but could would not import the files into it.
I deleted the "empty" folder reference in ASP2, closed ASP2 and restarted it. once again ASP2 was asked to import the folder, it created the folder but did not import the PEF files.
I now created some more PEF files with my camera, copied them onto my hard drive and then imported them into ASP2, all worked perfectly. I then opened the same folder with ASP3 and I could see the thumbnails but they would not open in the editing window. I closed ASP3 and opened ASP2, I could see both the thumbnails and edit them.
I then asked ASP2 to open the file in Aftershot HDR and there was no problem. I then did the same with the same file under ASP3 and Aftershot HDR and got "load image failed".
I can supply a PEF files with associated XMP if that helps.
Yes, I have a same problem. Linux Ubuntu 16.04. AfterShot Pro-3 doesn't read the Pentax K-3 files (PEF).
I don't understand Corel.
Yes, there are no alternatives for linux users, but I would like that they solved such serious problems as fast as possible.
Can you send me some sample PEFs from the K3-II? We're doing some testing in ASP3 and I'm looking for sample shots with different exposures, focal length, lenses, ISO and/or with a color chart. If you can supply some samples, please reply here or send me a PM with a Drive or Dropbox link. Thanks
Has this issue been resolved at all? I just bought Aftershot 3 because my copy of PSP X8 didn't work with .ARW files from the Sony A7ii but now I find that AS3 doesn't work with .PEF files from my Pentax K3ii. I saw this thread is a couple of years old and wondered if there was a fix now? I have the latest version (or at least the updater tells me so). I'm currently in the ridiculous situation of having to use AS3 for the Sony files and the built-in RAW processing in PSP X8 for the Pentax files - I'd really like the benefit of the better highlight recovery options in AS3, particularly as I had both cameras at a wedding shoot in challenging backlit conditions.

You're in the wrong place for highlight recovery, Chris - AfterShot Pro is far and away, and by an order of magnitude the most inept, least capable, most dismally under-performing, commercially available Raw converter out there, where highlight recovery is concerned.
Seriously: if that's a priority for you, you need to run, not walk, to another converter. This one is - literally - as bad as it gets if you value image quality.
Well OK then - can you point me the right way then? Telling me it's terrible is all very well but doesn't help with making it work or finding a suitable alternative...
Have you tried to update ASP version to v3.4? We can confirm both of Pentax K-3 or K-3 II PEF sample could be supported with ASP3.4 correctly. You can download the v3.4 patch from https://www.aftershotpro.com/en/support/updates/. If you still encounter the problem with K-3 or K-3 II sample, please raise the issue to Corel support team.
