Sorry to repeat a reply made elsewhere but this seems a good place to bring this up. Much to like in this new version, but after working on a few CR2 files, when I move to the next thumbnail I get 'No Image Preview,' and there is no histogram or functioning adjustments available, If I shut down and restart everything works fine for a few more images and then the same thing happens. Very frustrating. Also happens in Slideshow. If I select all and try to view a show, I get a few files then a white rectangle. Sticking with version 2 until this is sorted and wish I'd not upgraded so soon.

I saw in the comparison list that highlight recovery had been improved in ASP3, so I downloaded the trial version. To my dismay, it seems to be a work in progress. As others have mentioned, highlights can turn pink when moving the slider to the right. This occurred with one of my images at a setting of 18 on the scale that goes to 100. On other images, there doesn't seem to be a problem with highlights turning pink.

Moreover, I found that using both the recovery slider in combination with the highlight range slider, resulted in images becoming extremely blurry; the more I moved the sliders to the right, the worse the images got.

Hi Art,
Greg Wood here from the AfterShot Pro product team. Pink Hue on selected images has been reported on a few cameras, and we are working to reproduce this. Would you mind PMing me your camera details, or better yet, emailing me a sample (problem) RAW image at sample image <at> corel <dot> com? It would be very helpful as we try and chase down this intermittently reported issue.
Sincerely
Greg

[quote="grcolts"]Ditto for me too. I downloaded the trial version of ASP3 and have been playing around with it. So far, it has occasionally crashed on me, and when using the new highlight control found that it occasionally turns your highlights pink when pushed too far. A stable ASP3 without adding anything new would have pleased me as well. And, the watermarking feature is nice to have available but is it not the same as the plug-in ztext?
Hopefully, Corel will quickly fix those problems.
Cheers.

Hi GR,
Greg Wood here from the Corel PM team for AfterShot Pro. We're working to resolve the intermittent reports of pink hue that we've seen. Can you please post your camera model info or better, email a sample RAW file to sample image<at>corel<dot>com? Thanks.

Highlight Recovery needs more work
Yes indeed! But its better now.
I have experimented with layers (Highlight Recovery in regions on layers) and the SelectiveColor Tool (to reduce saturation of the pink color and/or change the hue and lightness) and the Equalizer Tool (sometimes also BEZ-plugin and GradFilterPro).
But still, with much more work, not as good results as I can achieve with photivo.
I will post an example later ...

I also have problems - with all of my cameras! But I have a workaround explained above. With exptreme blown highlights sometime its better to set exposure to -2 EV (sky and full southern sunlight).
Greg - do you mean sampleimage<at>corel<dot>com or image<at>corel<dot>com?

I came across the same problem on a Linux system. After a few attempts, I found removing AftershotPro config file helped.
rm ".config/Corel/AfterShot Pro v3.conf"
I'm not sure if Windows installs have the same file locations.
I have the same issue as discribed above. Removing config file is actually not a solution, because the only thing it does is that ASP3 do not scan the same directory on the startup and therefore does not crash. Also, on my MAC it works correctly, on linux crashes. Alex, is there any progress on that?

Application crash on loading some files...
"Not a TIFF file, bad magic number 55551 (0xd8ff)"

Some JPG files can produce this error in the log file WITHOUT crashing the application, others produce the error and DO cause a crash.

I can't attach the files here because of size restrictions of this forum (max 950px wide). The original file causes the crash. The same file, after loading and exporting from Gimp, does not cause the crash. If Corel Support can give me an email, I can send the files.

Corel,

Aftershot3 pro is not usable because it cannot import jpegs which it creates from Nikon exif or jpegs which it AfterShot2 pro created. This is really really BAD.

I ran the program under gdb got the set fault and did a bt (back trace)

I really dont understand why corel cannot fix this problem. It really makes the program not usable

Removed the image file from the folder, and ASP3 opened fine without crashing. But I found many other instances in my image library where image files crashed the program. ASP3 log file identified the same error for the problem files...

Copied the problem file to my Macbook Pro running El Capitan, and ASP3 worked fine there...

Hi there,

Very disappointing my first experience with Aftershot3.

Luckily Adobe has a free DNG converter so I was able to test my Canon 80d shots in Adobe Camera Raw (Photoshop CS5.5) and in the Free Canon RAW editor (Digital Photo Professional) that I got
with the camera to compare the results with Aftershot 3.

To be honest I don't see much difference between Aftershot Pro 2 and 3 besides worse image quality, a couple of new parameters, the 2 changed in 3 and a plenty of freezes in the application.

Lot's of times I get "No image available" when clicking from one image to the other, and Aftershot3 stops working.

It's nice to advertise with the speed it's loading, but I prefer top notch quality imaging. (I have my doubts about the faster loading, because it loaded at the same speed as importing in Adobe Bridge!)

I'm talking about the use of Canon 80D RAW files here.

When I change the parameters the image starts moving in a strange way!

When using multiple camera's the application crashes. In this case I used Canon 50d and Canon 80d. Opening and closing the application in between did not help either.

The image also degrades soon when zooming in. I'm talking about a 24mpix image at a 100% zoom. In Camera RAW from Adobe and Digital Photo Professional from Canon the image looks fine at the same size and zoom.

There seems to be a sharpness problem as well, because compare to Canon Digital Photo Professional and Adobe Camera RAW my images look not so sharp and materials like cloth, hair or fair less defined.

Canon EF 50m/m 1.4 USM:

Enable vignette correction creates vignette instead of takes them away!

Chromatic aberration does nothing, because it's parameters are on 0 (how are you supposed to know the adjustment? That needs to go automatically!).

The "Checking for updates" panel that appears after clicking "Check for updates" has the wrong font color (black on dark grey) and is unreadable.

Seems that I have paid to beta test the application.

Hope there will be a update soon, because I try to stay away from Adobe!

Regards,

David

Hi All,
I am completely confused as to the difference between AS 3 & ASP 3. On Corel's site when I try a comparison I only get Comparison of Pro 3 to Lightroom etc.
I am in a quandry as to whether to purchase PSP X9 Ultimate with AS 3, or to purchase ASP 3 stand alone. I am currently using PSP X7 and am very satisfied (I've been using Corel since X2) so don't really need an update @ this stage.
I have spent hours searching for a difference (even tried AS 2 comparison - that didn't work).
So would Corel PLEASE create a comparison list as they do for various versions of PSP.
Additionally the Corel Website Advert for X9 Ultimate indicates AS 3 on their list & box. BUT the screen shot for AS shows ASP 3 in lower left corner - very confusing.
I look forward to Corel's reply.

Now that the tiff error has been fixed I am very happy.

This product runs on Linux and since it is what I have, it works great.

Has Corel Fixed Highlights Turning Pink/Magenta?

Post by Art »

A while back there were several posts (including one by me) about blown highlights turning pink/magenta after using the Highlight Recovery Slider in ASP 3. Can anyone confirm that this has been resolved? Corel has an upgrade special on ASP 3 for $30, but the 30-day trial period for my ASP 3 has lapsed so I can't verify for myself.

that is solved now - much better highlight recovery now - but many other things are still not solved.

Better as in "better than it was/as good as you're likely to get from AfterShot Pro" or as in "it now holds its own with the competition"?

Not the latter, I imagine...
