Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Looks pretty good. Crashes on some images on my Win10 system though. Tried to open a top folder containing subfolders of images, and ASP3 crashed. After investigation, I found the ASP3 log file to see if I could figure out why. Log indicated the following error:
146785.599: Scanning file "C:/Users/Dick/Desktop/369440main_lroc_apollo11_lrg.jpg"
146785.604: Importing: "C:/Users/Dick/Desktop/369440main_lroc_apollo11_lrg.jpg"
146785.609: TIFF Error: C:/Users/Dick/Desktop/369440main_lroc_apollo11_lrg.jpg "Not a TIFF file, bad magic number 55551 (0xd8ff)"
Removed the image file from the folder, and ASP3 opened fine without crashing. But I found many other instances in my image library where image files crashed the program. ASP3 log file identified the same error for the problem files...
Copied the problem file to my Macbook Pro running El Capitan, and ASP3 worked fine there...

Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
I have AfterShotPro 3 trial version installed on Mac OS X "El Captain"
Testing AfterShotPro 3. compared to AfterShotPro 2 as far as I can see up to now :
Plus/minus
+ The drag and drop problem between files and folders is solved
- Gradfilter is available, howeverfor an additional fee.
- Missing Canon EF 24-105 mm f/4 l IS Lens in database. AfterShotPro3 can't recognize the lens.
- cannot install Silicon Bonk plugin
Regards
Twan

Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Highlight Recovery needs more work!
I saw in the comparison list that highlight recovery had been improved in ASP3, so I downloaded the trial version. To my dismay, it seems to be a work in progress. As others have mentioned, highlights can turn pink when moving the slider to the right. This occurred with one of my images at a setting of 18 on the scale that goes to 100. On other images, there doesn't seem to be a problem with highlights turning pink.
Moreover, I found that using both the recovery slider in combination with the highlight range slider, resulted in images becoming extremely blurry; the more I moved the sliders to the right, the worse the images got.

Big Disappointment
My experiences with Fuji-X-Trans (X-E1):
The output of APS2 and ASP3 is exactly the same, so no improvement in the bad demosaicing, still funny noisy pixels.
In this aspect ASP was and still is worse than any other raw converter I have tested!
The raw processing is still very slow, but impoved by 17% (3,3s on a Skylake i5 6500 per picture, without any settings applied). Bayer conversion is probably 10 times faster ...
Fuji-Lenses are now correctly detected, but no lens correction is applicable? I have posted correction factors more than one year ago (from lensfun). Why are they still not implemented?
I faced one crash after a few minutes. But this is usual behavior, like of all versions before.
I don''t care about any new feature before the basic quality is acceptable.
So Corel guys, can you please explain why I should pay money for this version update?

Re: Big Disappointment
My thoughts too. I was looking at this post: http://www.nomadlens.com/raw-converters-comparisonnipponichi wrote: I don''t care about any new feature before the basic quality is acceptable.
Ok, it's two years old, but the blurry details, bad highlights, I recognize from my own experience with ASP today. In this comparison ASP ends up on the last place.
My idea would be to spend at least two thirds of the time on pure image quality and one third on features
ASP as a tool is great. I love the ease of use and that I can also use it as an image assessment program (and it's available on Linux), but the relatively bad image quality makes me impatient and I would almost wish I was head of Corel

Ditto for me too. I downloaded the trial version of ASP3 and have been playing around with it. So far, it has occasionally crashed on me, and when using the new highlight control found that it occasionally turns your highlights pink when pushed too far. A stable ASP3 without adding anything new would have pleased me as well. And, the watermarking feature is nice to have available but is it not the same as the plug-in ztext?
Hopefully, Corel will quickly fix those problems.
Cheers.

ASP can beat them all, I have no doubt about that, if just work would be done on image quality and camera support.

I came across the same problem on a Linux system. After a few attempts, I found removing AftershotPro config file helped.
rm ".config/Corel/AfterShot Pro v3.conf"
I'm not sure if Windows installs have the same file locations.

Have the same problem with .pef and .dng produced by Pentax K20. AfterShot 2 works with highlights better for now.damonlynch wrote:I tried the new highlight recovery on a CR2 file and the sky became pink. That's been a long standing image quality problem with Bibble / Aftershot.
Pentax for everybody, free, and no one will go away unsatisfied!
Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Thanks tony_redink2000 for the tip...rm ".config/Corel/AfterShot Pro v3.conf"
Went looking for a configuration file in the Windows 10 version... The only one I found was qt.conf...
Would love to try this... perhaps the Corel folks could chime in and offer ideas to try.

Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Any progress on the problem with PEF files? It is a pain having to keep going back to ASP2 to manage PEF Pentax RAW images, so far Corel product support has sent me instructions on how to reload ASP3 under windows after I'd already told them that I was using Linux (twice). I wish I had hung fire and just tried the trial version rather than going straight to the paid upgrade.
Pentax and Ricoh for Ever!

GradFilterPro is back? Yesss!!
Now I *could* bring myself to update from 2.1.2.10 ... as soon as I find a *reason* to pay for ASP3+GradFilterPro and go through the hassle of setting it up so that I can work as before/now. (As I've said before in this forum: I will still miss the Nostalgia and Nuance plugins, but I will be able to live without them.)
Thank you, Corel, for listening to your users' needs, as voiced in this forum!

Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Hey all. I am being a bit lazy as I have a few questions that I would like answered, if they haven't been answered already. These can be answered by Corel or users.
I have just bought this for gradfilter. A bit disappointed that I have to pay for it again, but so be it.
Why bring out a new version, when the list of plugins are so poor and have never really been improved?
Why don't you go out to industry to build the plugins. Although the volunteer coders have done a good job, they cannot be expected to keep up with the upgrades.
Has the issue with old catalogues not being seamlessly supported been fixed?
Has the issue with the keyword lists been sorted? I am fed up of that crashing and forgetting my lists. I still am unable to update my keyword lists.
Running Mint 17 64bit

Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Where is the feedback button on the Linux version, as I want an import keyword list functionality?
Why can I export keyword lists, but I can't import keyword lists?
Why can't I organise my keyword list once I have made it? i.e. rearrange order of keyords.

Re: Introducing the New AfterShot Pro 3
Took the plunge, upgraded, and have just run across too many problems, so much so that I've had to go back to 2.4 to get anything done.
ASP3 decides after a random period it can no longer render images - the dreaded No Preview Available
Loses the histogram
Decides that half way through a batch export that every image from that point is an error
All of those problems occur in both Linux and Windows
Supports solution? Reinstall it.
I'm not alone in this either, there's other threads detailing exactly the same issues.
