Hi,
I have VS X8 and am trying to burn a DVD that has 2 chapters. One takes the user to a screen that has an option to play the entire DVD or is supposed to have a button that just takes the user to a 20 second clip on the DVD (via the button) and then return the user to that menu. That 20 second clip is supposed to be the second chapter. I thought I used to do this in X4, but when I go in Preview mode and choose the second chapter it never returns to the menu. The DVD just continues to play. How can I limit the chapter length? I have tried to limit the length by cutting the video in edit mode at the appropriate times. In this way, I was able to also produce the clip in MP4 format.
I have changed the clip playback option in the gears menu to return to the menu when done, but it doesn't help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Possible easy question re chapter length

Re: Possible easy question re chapter length
Hi Chris
As you have set the navigation controls from the Project Settings cogwheel (lower left) to “ Back to menu”
Default is to continue to play disc, remove tick from Auto Repeat…….Change Clip Playback to Back to menu.
Now the disc should play to the end and return to menu, are you saying the disc continues to play forever???
OK
Title Menu v Chapter menu
The navigation controls affect the Title Menu.
Can you clarify, from the first page are you adding two video files , or one then applying Chapters to set the 20 second section. You do not say how long the first clip is?
You will be best to create two video files, the main one and the 20 second video
Adding those to the burner module will create a title menu with no need to set chapters.
Rendering video for DVD disc should use Mpeg2 type video

Re: Possible easy question re chapter length
Thanks for the response, Trevor (Iata?),
I think I wasn't clear enough in my description and didn't provide enough detail. I am burning a soccer game to disc and want the user to click on the Title screen menu button (only one choice will be given, as I hide the rest), which takes the user to a second screen. That second screen has the two chapter buttons on it -- the first button allows the user to play the game in its entirety, the second button allows the user to view a specific clip from the game that I have already cut (but left in the video). If the user chooses the second button, I want the clip to play and then return to that menu. I thought I used to be able to do this in X4, but what is happening now is that the second clip plays and then continues to play until, I assume, it reaches the end of the game.
I do already have Auto Repeat unchecked and the option for Clip Playback is "Back to menu." As for the MP4 comment, I was merely noting that I have cut the clip in edit mode so as to create an MP4 file out of it for other purposes.
It sounds like the 2 video solution may work, but will there be a button associated with the second video so that it can be viewed if the user chooses to?
Thanks

Re: Possible easy question re chapter length
OK, I mostly have it where I want it now. I must be misremembering how X4 worked unless X8 is different in this respect. It appears I cannot use chapters to do what I want (play the clip from the SECOND screen/menu and then return to that menu after it is completed). But, if I cut the clip in the Add Media mode (and don't try to do anything in the Add/Edit Chapter mode), I can have a button on the FIRST (and now only) screen/menu that will allow the user to play the clip and then return to that menu to either play the entire video or that clip again.
Not quite what I wanted, but if it has to be this way, so be it. I had wanted to play the video and clip from a second screen/menu so as to show another background and, potentially, add more buttons while not cluttering up the first screen/menu. Hopefully that makes sense.

Re: Possible easy question re chapter length
Hi
Title menu…….
If you use two video files added to the burner module, they show as two clips on the first page.
For each clip a link is created on the main menu ( aka Title Menu)
Play the disc and the Main menu shows, we can select either clip, choose the first and it will play then return to menu, allowing us to choose another.
Chapter menu…….
Insert one video to the burner module, again that creates a main menu but with one link.
Add two chapter points creates a SubMenu ( aka Chapter Menu)
Play the disc and the Main menu shows allowing us to select a title, only one available, that opens the Sub Menu having two chapters, choose the first link and the disc will play to the end including the second chapter.
We can of course play the second chapter only.
But the (Navigation Controls) return to menu does not affect chapters, so once playing will play to end of disc. At least that’s how I understand it.
The two menu pages, Title and Chapters can have different backgrounds / sound applied.
Chapter Menu option uses a Title menu, if that menu has only one link then its not very useful as we can only access the one Chapter menu.
That Title menu can be hidden, so when we play the disc the Sub Menu ( Chapter Menu ) shows first. ( Edit Tab – Advanced – uncheck Add Title Menu)
All versions of Video Studio work the same.
