Cannot start capture graph error

Post by AvR »

Hi
I am using VS x8 on Windows8.1 64 bit. I am trying to capture from a camcorder using a USB capture device. on preview all is fine , Picture and sound. As soon as I click 'Capture' I get a "Cannot start capture graph" error. I have tried this device with other software packages and it works. On VS x8 the same error occurs when trying to capture using webcams.

It is totally common that VS will not capture from an external USB capture device unless that device specifies it will work with VS. Most devices come with their own capture software, because it is specifically made or tweaked to work with that device. So please use whatever software that came with the device to capture the video, then simply open that video in VS and edit it. And by the way, this has been happening since I first started with Video Studio about 12 versions, and 12 years, ago!!

That is indeed unfortunate and makes Corel VS pretty much useless for my purpose, which is live feed from a microscope of moving microorganisms. I have been using this with firewire for years creating video used by universities, the Smithsonian and several Hollywood productions. Now because of 'improvements' in technology, the firewire is left in the dust to be replaced by inferior crap. I was encouraged when I could see the image via AV to USB device but when I tried capture > no cigar.

Is there a USB device which will allow capture with VS? If not, perhaps the time has come to go the way of Linux.

Umm maybe because it is the same issue and I was directed here by a Google search. Why are you bothering to address this? Also hijacking normally refers to off topic posting. It seems that Ken has given the unfortunate answer anyway.

Why are you bothering to address this? because you did.

As I said, if you have an issue, start a new post, Firewire is still available, did you Google search, if you are creating videos for universities, why on earth would you be using a lower end NLE, you should be using Adobe After Effects or Pro

I have a usb video grabber called Ezcap, this works with video studio.
A bit old now and only standard definition, I am sure there will be HD versions available.
Read this older post.

Although your profile shows you using x9.5 is that correct?

I have not used my device in a while but will give it a run to make sure capture does work as well as being able to view

My device did come with its own software by Arcsoft which could be used to capture even if Video Studio fails, was your device bundled with any software
