Bitman, what were your Vasco da Gamma Export settings? I have VdG 9 and would like to export a similar short clip to see if I can duplicate your results.
I used vasco da gamma 9 HDPro, so you can replicate it to :)
I also have VdG 9 HP Pro (version 9.09) and created a simple flight from Ottawa to Cancun. After rendering to 1920x1080 mov (good and very good) settings the resulting video does not have your high bitrate values. The highest is 85 mbps for main@L5.2. So obviously I have some setting different then you. That is why I was asking for the full project and export settings. There does not seem to be any bitrate settings in VdG.

This may be a stupid question but maybe one of the experts here can answer. Would the fact that you have a lot of "extras" on your screen happening, have any effect on the bitrate? I have a very basic flightpath for my project.

hmm I still have version 9.07 (I must patch it I suppose, maybe the bitrates for produced stuff will go down as well  )

I checked the site of VDG, they have version 9.11 now, I just updated VDG to 9.11 ...

Regarding the content affecting the bitrate, well, in VDG that can be very much be the case as there seems no known max bitrate setting.
With the variable rate without a known max rate cap, nor known relation to the quality setting, we are up to the mercy of the compression algoritme.
I found 2 other quick and dirty simple clips I made with VDG each 5 seconds long each with main L.5, with very distinct contend: one of a spinning globe with airplane, overall bitrate 428 Mbps, the other with a moving flat map with a moving car, overal bitrate 167 Mbps
