Post by Mike1940 »

Could someone please help me? I am trying to install Nik on my system. I am running
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Corel Paintshop Pro X8.2 and have asked Corel support for assistance but they tell me to ask Google since it is their program. I have been through all kinds of
information but cann ot get any instructions on how to install Nik so it works. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike, just install it into your Plugins folder in Documents / PaintShop Pro / 18 / Plugins.
Open PSP, go to File, Preferences, File Locations, Plugins, and ADD that plugins folder if it's not already added.
I have a custom folder on a different hard drive for all my custom files for PSP including plugins.

You don't have to install your plugins in the Corel folders.

Simply go to File/Preferences. Select File locations. Then look in you directory for \Program Files\Google\Nik Collection. (This is where Google Nik will install your plugins so there is no need to change it).
\Nik Collection should be all you need as from there PSP will find the appropriate .exe file.

I'm not surprised that Corel support said it was a Google issue. Just proves that some folks at Corel simply don't understand the software that we are trying to use. It's clearly a matter of clarifying how PSP handles any external plugin. It would have been a simple matter for Corel support to clarify how PSP plugins need to be setup. Google has no idea of how the many programs that use their plugins work. Nor should they have to. If Corel wants to include the ability to use plugins then it's their responsibility to make it user friendly.

Actually neither installing the Nik Collection the standard way nor adding an external folder work out of the box. Additionally copy the "Nik Collection" folder directly into /PlugIns/<Lang>/ so it makes: /PlugIns/<Lang>/Nik Collection

You can do that in both 32bit and 64bit versions, after the next restart the Nik Filters should show up.

Voom I don't understand your post. Is what you are say is that Trueblues solution and my solution don't work? If so then I have no idea how my system and method have been working this way since forever!!!

Your solution would be the regular way and works for me with any other plugin. Nik has not worked for me in X4 nor X8 until I put the Nik-folder directly into the PlugIns folder as described. Maybe it works sometimes, for whatever reason, but if for someone it does not, try my solution. I found this works for most people when the regular method fails. :)

Try this: check if the plugins are under /PlugIns/<lang>/Google/Nik Collection if yes, move folder "Nik Collection" directly under /PlugIns/<lang>/ as described above.

Just be aware that some folks, like me, use the plugins in more than one editor. So keeping them in the Google directory and simply pointing your program to them may save some confusion/frustration..

Since doing that does not work for me (and many others) in PSP, I need to have them in several places: once in the general Google folder for other programs, and once each in X4, X8 32bit and X8 64bit directly in the respective plugins-folder...

A bit premature I'm afraid. After five successful saves it's back to crashing again.

Thank you very much brucet,

Copying the plugins to the Corel plugin folder did not work. The normal installation of Nik and linking to this folder in the settings has worked. Thank you very much for the help. Without the help I could not use the collection.
