Mystery Unsolved

Post by SkiBunny »

I just bought the Corel Paintshop Pro x8 ultimate on the 30th. I have been trying to solve a mystery. That would be that when I installed it and I was ready to work with this newer program a small box suddenly appeared and it showed nothing except for the title of the box said something like File Format Association and the box was white with no writing in it. It did however have 3 small dots vertically to the left that I assume needs me to pick one even tho I can't see them. Also, this mystery box also has 2 small rectangular boxes at the bottom of this blank box. I am again assuming it must be like a cancel box or accept box. In addition to that mystery box, when I am looking beyond the box, or when I just close that box, there are no menu items to be seen. by that I am talking about the "FILE, VIEW, that are the top menu items. I do have one toolbar which shows the tools of things like crop, text, flood color, erase etc. I can also drag a photo that will apper in the main desk area. I'm sorry if I am not using the terminology correctly. I have been searching for days on this subject and cannot find anything. I also called support which just directs youto the web and I have followed all the rules on placing a ticket. So as of now, I have called twice, talked to agents on line 4 times and even emailed a few times. I am receiving emails in reply to my problem but (if you can believe this) they are wanting me to fill out a report card basically on how they solved my problem! I am at a lose and don't know where else I can go. I am hoping someone might have had this problem with a real quick easy fix. Please help. Thank you in advance! :) :D
Oh, just noticed there is a place I am upload a pix so I will try that of the screenshot of what I am trying to explain. Thanks.

You can try to reset the workspace. Instructions are written for X6 but are the same for X8.

First, like Kathy said, try resetting the program. Second, once you restart it check to see what version of X8 you have (Help>About). I suspect it is X8 with the SP1 patch. If so it will show the version to be 18.1.0.67. It has caused issues for some people. If that is the version you have, you have to get the latest update, SP2. You can get it here:

Good Morning JoeB. I completed the resetting of the program but it did not fix my problem. I continued on after the restart to see what version of X8 I have. That was challenging as I can't see the File,Edit, View, bar so I had to open up X6 to follow those arrows as you mentioned. I can't see the Help button to bring me to the About section but with the X6 version I pulled up what I thought was the Help and About buttons. The big window with the Paint Shop Pro came up but the area that would have the version was blank just as the bar with the File,Edit, View so I couldn't tell what it was. I went ahead and downloaded that SP2 and ran that but it said I did not need the update so I am guessing I must have the SP2 pack. So I am back to square one. Thank you so very much for trying to help me with very easy directions (like the Help/About section). Very grateful.

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling PSPX8. You can find a cleanup/removal tool here http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=52337

This is the UI issue with SP1.

Resetting the program or the workspace wont work. you just need to install Service Pack 2.

Hi Flagpole. I downloaded the Service Pack 2 and went thru the installing and then it say "No update of your installed software is required at this time".
Any other ideas? Also, what is "the UI issue"? thank you for your help.

"UI" stands for User Interface. In other words, with SP! patch the interface of the program is lacking a lot of stuff for some people, like menu items, information that should be in information/message boxes is missing, etc.

Thank you for that JoeB. But yesterday I downloaded the SP pack 2 and when I installed it, it said something like no update of your installed software is required at this time. So I am assuming this means I have it already? Thanks again for your help.

@flagpole

As I said in that other entry, please remove PSPX8.2 and install PSPX8.0 again. The issue on some Windows 7 64bit systems is not solved until now.

@ to all with the text issue (text is missing in menus) that came with SP 1 and was not solved in SP2:

We have finally nailed down the cause of the issue and released a fix.

For all customers who use PSPX8.0, please follow these steps:

Download SP 2 for PSPX8 from here:
http://www.paintshoppro.com/en/support/ ... duct-tab=0

Download the PSPX8.2_Text-missing.exe
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwT28 ... 3NmNHZ1YkE

1. Install SP 2 for PSPX8
2. Install PSPX8.2_Text-missing.exe

I want to THANK everyone in this forum that contributed their precious time and brilliance in helping me with the missing text problem. Ultimately it was the SP2 that was suggested but I also needed that missing text download to have it completely working. HOORAY!! Thanks again to everyone in the above forum and Simone Corel UK who attached that missing text exe. You are right..." NAILED IT!". Have a FABULOUS DAY everyone! :D
