Hi tsteves5
A lot of work there, thanks for that.
Quite a significant shift in audio across those cuts.
Smart Render may not be as smart as its name, but does work with most video.
With Smart Render selected it’s a little difficult to know what affect it has, rendering settings “like for like” should have full Smart Render speeding up render times. Second renders to the same project will speed up render times as Smart Render seems to remember the first attempt.
However rendering to other formats would effectively disable smart render, difficult to compare X4 and X9 to identify the Smart Render effect.
DV-Avi is a lossless format and should edit and render ok, so I would not expect any problems.
Did you notice any significant changes in render times when using Smart Render?

Yes, the time change is painful.
Test #6 took about 6 minutes with Smart Render. It took 41 minutes without.

Re: Video/Audio Sync Issues on BD
Hi tsteves5,
I feel your pain. I just upgraded Video Studio x5 to x9 due to the same problem with x5 no longer launching after updating Windows 7. I've been using x5 for over 4 years with Smart Render enabled and have had no problems. After rendering my daughters birthday video with x9, I noticed an audio/video sync problem that becomes worse the longer the video plays. I'm using AVCHD footage from a Canon HD camcorder, where I specify to create a video that is the same as the first video clip. If I disable Smart Render then the problem goes away, but it takes 10x longer to produce. I finally upgraded my machine to Windows 10 so I can continue to use version x5.
I have an open help desk ticket with Corel to get this bug fixed, but they have been trying to close it saying I should upgrade my PC and turn off Smart Render. Maybe if enough people complain to Corel they will acknowledge that this is a bug and fix it. Did you report this issue to Corel?

Re: Video/Audio Sync Issues on BD
Hi
It does seem odd that rendering using X5 and X9 creates a bad result unless Smart Render is used.
Smart Render compares the project to the video file then does a full job on the edited sections.
X5 project properties are limited to Standard Definition, it may be that difference in X5 to X9 project properties that is confusing VS. Clearly something is going astray.
What are the frame rates of your AVCHD used in X5?
I do think it may be the limitations of X5 project properties that is causing this.
Just thinking out loud.
Unfortunately Corel are not gonna fix bugs with projects created using a 4/5 year old program.

Re: Video/Audio Sync Issues on BD
Hi Lata,
Thanks for the reply. I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. There is no problem with VideoStudio x5. It works great with Smart Render enabled or disabled. The problem is with the current version x9. It produces the video with the audio/video sync issue only when Smart Render is enabled. I'm still trying to convince Corel support that this is a bug, as they are now trying to tell me my hardware is too old to work properly with version x9, and that I need a new machine. To counter this claim, I installed VideoStudio x9 on my dad's new DELL machine, and it produced the same output as my older PC. The only constant between the two machines is that the processor is AMD, so I'm starting to wonder if the problem is only with AMD processors. Unfortunately I don't have access to a newer PC with an Intel processor to see if this is the case.
I think think this bug is very serious as by default VideoStudio has Smart Render enabled, so a lot of people are probably creating videos with audio/video sync problems and aren't even aware of it.
