How to create "distressed" effect on a font?

Post by DaveG74 »

All throughout my experience using Paint Shop Pro, I've never learned how to create a distressed look on a font. I would like some guidance here.

I have always been a collector of TrueType fonts. I am aware that I can use a texture to simulate a distressed font, but more particularly, I'd like to know how to apply a random worn edge onto a font selection also...like it's melted or burned away. Image presented here, as an example.

The wear and distress on the edges of these fonts is the effect I'm referring to. I could keep collecting distressed fonts from the Net, but I know I can easily apply this effect on any typeface in my personal inventory instead. The question is, how is it done?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

You can probably use the Warp brush with a noise mode and brush along the edges of the letters for distressing only the edges, or you can use a larger brush size to cover the whole letters for a more "overall" distortion.

Maybe you just need to install the right font

Those are actually the names of fonts so just search for them or look for similar.

CASSEL:
I tried your technique using the Warp brush and different Noise attributes on different brush sizes. I couldn't quite replicate the effect I depicted in the above font samples. However, I just need to give it further evaluation through the various tools and characteristics, I guess. LOL :)

The use of the Warp brush requires some tweaking with the settings. Play with them. You might find exactly what you need, based on the actual font you have to work with.
