PSP X6 Boot Time

Post by Phil47 »

PSP X6 is now taking 7 minutes to boot up before I can use it.
Any ideas or solutions would be welcome.

Thanks,
Phil.

7 minutes!!! Gosh I get cranky if it takes more than 7 seconds. (PSPx7 on an i5 system).

My first suggestion is to take a look at your cache settings. But really I think you have something else going on with your system.

Try to simplify everything.
1. Disconnect from internet (it tries to load some messages from Corel and if internet is slow or a problem may get some problems)
2. Save your workspace and then reset your program (hold Shift key down and start your program again)
3. Clear your cache (mentioned in some other recent threads where there are problems)
4. Clear your Recycle Bin.
5. Make sure you have it set up to start in Edit mode with the Organiser closed so it does not load any thumbnails.

All these are meant to reduce the amount of extra things that the program may do or have to do at various stages.

If you use the Manager/Organizer PSP will sometimes spend time on opening and closing the program combing through your folders looking for photos to index. Depending on how full your HDD is and how large the photos are this is also a potential reason for the slowdown. Corrupted photo databases in PSP have also been known to cause issues, though it's rarer that it slows things down.

Thanks guys.
How do I clear my cache and or change my cache settings? I have no idea at all how to do that. Is it just for PSP X6 or the whole computer?
It is nothing to do with the Recycle Bin as it has been going on for months now.
With the Recycle bin empty it took 6 mins 10 secs to open and opened in "Manage". I don't know why it opened on "Manage" as it always used to open in "Edit" for years.
How do I set it up to start in Edit mode with the Organizer closed?

Ok I haven't opened x6 for a longtime. But i just opened it and it took 25 seconds on an old i3 laptop. After the first start up the next start up only took 13 seconds.

Start x6. Then go to -
Top left corner.
Open File/Preferences/General Program preferences.
Go down to Default Launch Workspace. Select Edit.

That will ensure the Edit screen is the first window you see.

Close PSPx6. Then start it up several times and take note of the start up time compared to what you are getting now.

Keep in mind that it is possible that PSPx6 is working fine and that you may have other programs are consuming resources that PSP needs.

In addition do a scan of your C drive as if some sectors containing PSP are a bit dicky it may require many reads to be able to read the sectors correctly. I found this helped when my XP system started to slow down and took a long time to load.

Another suggestion (I think this has not been suggested yet) - go to C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\16.0\Database and rename ImageDB.db. This will prevent X6 from using it but does not destroy the file in case things don't work. Restart X6 a few times and see if this helps. X6 recreates the db file so if you look in the directory again you should see a new ImageDB file. You can delete the renamed file if all is well.
