I long ago gave up trying with the 64-bit version (on 14.4 and later Ubuntu releases), but the 32-bit version worked very well, until...
... just switched from xubuntu 15.4 to 16.4 LTS today.
Decided to do the After Shot Pro upgrade afterwards, having checked the older version was running fine.
Voila! The menus (File, Edit, View, etc.) WORK, but do not have any text on them, just grey dropdowns.
The upgrade release I got from the Corel site was the Debian 2.4.0.112 (or so it says on splash screen, but date still says 2015, although the release date on the Corel site is Jan 2016).
I have tried all sorts of changes to the desktop configuration, such as different themes, different fonts, turning hints off, etc. No joy.
The 64-bit still crashes on startup, but then I was expecting that.
I had to use the command line (sudo apt-get remove... etc.) to blow the installation away as the only option in package manager (Software Center) was to reinstall, which changed nothing. It's also blown away my licence key, so I'll have to go find that shortly.
I have rolled back to 2.1.2.10.174 (I think, the version codes seem arbitrary too). It was the only earlier version on the Corel site. That seems to work as it should - at least the menus look normal, but I haven't methodically tested it yet.
What a mess. I can't remember an aftershot update that ran smoothly on Ubuntu, and the 64-bit version hasn't worked here for at least three revisions.
I'm running vanilla xubuntu. The only unusual thing is that I use a modern Wacom tablet (using the Wacom extensions).
If anyone has got the latest release running under xubuntu, please tell how!
Thanks.

I'm not sure but this sounds like more an issue with QT, which are the libraries that AftershotPro uses for its gui.
I would check that as a first step
