4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
I wanted to make a 10 min XAVC-S UHD novie with VSX9 (output setting: XAVC-S 3840x2160 25p @65Mbps). Did not work...all went well untill the end of the render process where I got the "file format mismatch" prompt, I found that when the total rendered filesize is below 4 GB all goess fine. The original clip are om an NTSF formatted disk as well a the target disk is NTFS. The same problem with HD originals when trying tp get an UHD XAVC-S output larger than 4GB (~9 min). Plse try!

Does mp4 output work? Any reason you want XAVC format?

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
I know MP4 goes beyond the 4 GB limit witj the same resolution (UHD), framerate and bitrate settings, but XAVC-S is a "smarter" codec (e.g better nacro block detection and flexibility) variant than the older mp4 implementations. This results in less compression artifacts at the same bit budget.

Try to render to exFAT card as used by few cameras these days. or lower the bit rate a bit.

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
I rendered a 10min movie to an external exFat formatted disk but same XAVC problem, after 99% render I got the file format mismatch prompt again. I get a 5.14 GiB XAVC-S file witj the expected .mp4 extension but this doen't seem to be a normal video file (MediaInfo) Lower bitrates to keep the filesize below 4GB would help but lowersds the potential video quality The original UHD clips have been shot at 100Mbps which isn't even available in VSX9. Poor XAVC-S "compatibilty" I wouls say...

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
I have to correct my argument about prefering XAVC-S above MP4. They are both an H264 variant, so no specidic differences. I was thinking on H265 (HEVC) codecs, The point remains, WHY is XAVC-S limitted to 4GB output files in VideoStudio. What is the purpose if you can only get ~7min UHD video(@65Mbps) in the XAVC-S render profile and no limit with mp4 at the same settings?.

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
Hi Andre
Can you confirm your frame rate, is that 50P or 25fps?
The default templates using VS X9 for XAVCS uses 50P
I am rendering a 12 minute test video at the moment but seems may take a while.
I’ll get back when render has completed or failed?

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
Hi
Yes I get the same error "File Format Mismatch"
The file is created and saved to my hard drive ( 5.6Gb) but windows icon shows as a sound file?
When trying to add the file to VS library I get the same error.
I have not tried with files below 4 Gb
Andre have you reported this to Corel Support?

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
Trevor you missed my e-mail yesterday?
I have only few 4K stuff but two of them crashes X9 SP2 , immediately upon import. one is from pan HC-VXF999 the other from sony α7R II .
Update -
1) I also fail , the file was rendered to ~4.8G in ~66min but it unplayable. I think the culprit is in the final wrapping of the file
2) The files crash my X9 are not originals but YT downloads
*** 3) PS19 goes only up to 40MBS XAVC but it refused totally to render my test clip to XAVC. ( X9 was OK when <4GB)
erdna, can you upload for us a tiny true XAVC clip? doesnt have to be 100mbs , 50mbs is just fine.

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
I just stumble into Sony's site and found this, regard FDR-AX33
This utility updates the system firmware and provides the following benefits:
Allows the camera to record XAVCS format video with an SDHC card in addition to SDXC card.
Notes:
When an SDHC memory card is used to record movies in XAVC S format over extended periods of time, the recorded movies will be divided into files of 4 GB, and the divided files can then be integrated into a single file using the Action Cam Movie Creator or PlayMemories Home software
Shooting movies in XAVC S format requires SD Speed Class 10, UHS Speed Class U1, or faster
When recording at 100 Mbps or more, UHS Speed Class U3 is required

Re: 4GB filesize limit with XAVC-S
Hi asik,
Plse find hereunder a DB link to an original FDR-AX33 clip. It’s an UHD 25p @100Mbps clip (I don’t have the cam with me right now for shooting 60Mbps clips). The SD card is a Sandisk 64GB SDXC U3 class10 version which is OK for 100Mbps recording. Long clips are not split in 4GB chinks.
FYI. Even filling up the timeline with HD clips up to ~ 10min and rendering as UHD XAVC@65Mbps (= >4GB XAVC mp4 file) fails in the same way.

oh, I recall that clip. I have it. I better rename it and place it in TEST VIDEOS folder.erdna wrote:Hi asik,
