Change environmental data location

Post by Brikki »

Hello all, and also to the moderator

Media studio and all sub programs stores the environmental data (10MB!)in the folder C:\documents and Settings\[userID]\application Data\ulead Systems\.....

I cannot move it to another location, I did not find a set up for that.
I found the location in the registry. It is allowed to change this entry to an other location without crashes the whole ulead System...?

In a network based system, with profile limitation, it is not usefull to fill your profile with 10MB environmental data.

At time I must clear the whole settings for the ulead System after each using.

Best regards

If you're talking about temporary and preview files you can relocate them to folders in another location using the approipriate options in the File/Preferences menu. There is also a Preview Files Manager in the File menu for managing the temp files.

:( Change of registry entry will not work. The software works normal and creates his data in the same Application data folder.
The temporary folder can be change to another location, but not the environmental data. That is bad.

The folders you indicate are under Program Files on my system, so my guess is you're talking about the installation folder. This was the folder you specified when you installed Ulead, and contains the excutables and supporting files that allow Ulead to operate at all. I don't think there's any good way for an application/product to change it's own installation folder while its running, which is why there's no option for changing this location.

I'd guess if you really need to change this location, that you'll have to uninstall and re-install, specifying a different location. Note that you might lose some settings when you uninstall if you chose this route.

I have heard of a product called "Partition Magic / MagicMover" that allows movement of product directories from place to place, but I've never used it and cannot attest to how well it works.

The Production Library files (moving paths, filters, custom settings etc) are in the gallery files for VE, CGI and VP (*.gal, *.rsa, *.rsf, *.teg, *.rsc, *.rsm etc. etc. ) located in the Ulead.dat folder. No, they're not movable unless you do a reinstall to another HDD and that brings up other cans of worms.
