Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
I have been using Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 since 2012 up to January of this year (2016) with good results on my Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64 bits laptop. However now (April 21, 2016) when I try to use it the program simply does not open or even start! I have uninstalled and re-installed a number of times without success. I see some suggestions for fixing the same problem on more recent versions but nothing for the X5. Anyone aware of a solution? I need some help since I am in the middle of a project! Thanks.

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
The problem was caused by an update to Windows 7 which caused every version of Videostudio in the world running under Windows 7 to stop working
this procedure has been found to work in X5 by many users
download and unzip the attached file to your desktop to get a .dll file
I would strongly advise that first you rename the existing MUIHelper.dll file in your X5 program files to MUIHelper_old.dll (just in case we have a problem and you need to revert)
copy the MUIHelper.dll file from my download into the X5 program folder and try to open X5

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
Thanks to BrianCee, your recommendation did work! After I downloaded and install MUIHelper.dll my Pro X5 is now opening (though it is back to where it was when I first got it) i.e none of my "favorite" Titles and thumbnails I had in the dashboard "library" is still there. Thanks

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
Hi BrianCee,
I guess celebration was premature since the next time I opened the program (VS Pro X5) it prompted me to update to the Service Pack 2 which I did since I figured it would be more staple. HOWEVER, when I tried to open it after that NOTHING happened, it would not open as it was doing BEFORE I tried the MUIHelper.dll fix. Any ideas? should I just uninstall, reinstall from my CD, do the MUIHelper fix and avoid the Service Pack 2 update?

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
that's a pain
At this point I do not have a correct or the right answer - all I can tell you at this point is this is what I would do if I were in your situation - may or may not work
completely uninstall the X5 programme - Install the programme again and make sure you add all three (3) patches
try the MUIHelper swap again
if it doesn't work - upgrade to X9
sorry but unless any one else wants to offer a solution I have nothing else

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
I might have found a solution. I noted some discrepancies in the size of the MUI flies. The file you asked me to download was 78kb after unzipping, yet in the Program folder the one labeled MUIHelper_old was now 207kb (date 2012 when I initially installed) and the other was 209kb (dated 2013 possibly the update date). There was no 78kb file and none for 2016 when I added it. It seems that the update changed it to 209kb. So I renamed the MUIHelper_old to MUIHelper_older and the 209kb one to MUIHelper_old then (re)added the 78kb one and it started to work again! I will now avoid the Corel Service Pack 2 update (I am not posting my videos to Facebook anyway!). Now my other question is how can I reclaim the Titles I had in my Favorites? is that possible? It would save me the time for searching through and re-doing the ones I liked. Thanks again

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
Well if all is working now I would not change anything now - but I can't help wondering if you have changed the right file -- the one you should have changed is in C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X5 - seems like you have changed the one in the X86 folder which is over 200 Kb
If you have used those titles in any of your projects you can open the project again and push the title up into the title library and Videostudio will create a copy there for future use

I have checked and note that my Corel VideoStudio is in the Program Files folder, NOT in the X86 folder. Also, I have VideoStudio Pro X5 not Ultimate X5 (is there a difference?)

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 not opening
Hi
Given that the program CVSX5 is a 32 bit program would by default be installed here:-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5
So unless you changed the location when installing I don’t understand why the files are in 64 bit, C:\Program Files\Corel
There is little or no difference to Ultimate and Pro versions of the basic program, the Ultimate program is provided with additional filters and add-ons, of course at an additional cost. But the editing functions of both are the same.
I guess all that matters is that you have the program running.

The new MUIHelper.dll file works fine with X6.

Exactly what program/files do you have in the Program Files\Corel folder?
