JoeB wrote:I would suggest that you do a complete uninstall and reinstall of the program. First, get the Cleanup Tool from the sticky post near the top of this forum and use it to do the uninstall. Then reboot your system. Then reinstall PSP and do another reboot. Then try saving a pspimage file. Make sure you set the compatibility when saving from the Options as suggested earlier.
Hi JoeB,
Thanks for the reply. I have just done all of what has been recommended, but still no success. I am going to try running the program on another computer running Windows 8 and possibly Windows 10. I'll let you know what the results are.

Also try and duplicate the steps that Jean-Luc did -- the 3900 x2600 pixels and duplication with drawings on each layer . If that works and you still have problems with your file then it may also be some special effect you have done with one of your layers which is upsetting PSP X8.
ie start with simple (one layer drawing some colored lines - duplicate a number of times) before you trye with some more difficult features - masks adjustment layers , mix of vector and raster layers , groups.
You may have discovered a totally new bug, or on the other hand your original installation may have been corrupted somehow.

Hi everyone,
I think I may have discovered what's wrong. When I tried on one of my other computers running Windows 8.1 I don't have any problem with opening pspimage files larger than 1MB. My suspicion at this point is that there is something corrupt in my Windows 7 Professional operating system. I'm not sure what the problem is as all my other programs work fine. I'm going to update to Windows 10 on the computer I am having the trouble with and see if this solves the problem. I'll post the results.

Hi folks,
I have just installed Windows 10 and tried PSP again. This looks like it has fixed the problem. I was able to save a new "pspimage" file and reopen it. The file size is 165MB. It opened almost instantaneously.

Thank you to all the members who took the time to give suggestions. That was much appreciated.

Hi folks,
I thought I should post this information. I would like to give as much information as possible to hopefully help someone else who might experience this problem. I received an email from Corel support and thought I should share my reply as it has information that I have discovered since my last post.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your response to my problem. I have been able to correct the problem. The following is the way I went about fixing this issue.

I was running Windows 7 as my operating system. I tried the program on another one of my computers running Windows 8.1 and I had no problem with PSP using this computer. I was therefore suspicious that the Windows 7 operating system may have been corrupt. I updated the operating system to Windows 10. When I tried PSP it worked fine. I thought this was the answer to the problem. I then tried one of the existing "tif" files, that I had created previously, and created a new "pspimage" file. The same problem occurred. After closing the "pspimage" file PSP froze when trying to open this "pspimage" file. I then decided to open the "tif" file in another program and re-save it. I then created a new "pspimage" file and it worked fine. This may, and I stress may, indicate that there is an error in the HEADER of the file. This will still need to be checked to see if this is indeed the problem.

Unfortunately this leave me with a question mark. I'm not sure if the problem was caused by Windows or another program. I normally open the "raw" file in Capture One and process the "raw" image. This is saved as a 16bit "tiff" file. I open this file with PSP and do all my layers and final editing. It is then saved as a "pspimage" file as well as saving a "tif" file.

I intend to do some more research and see if I can track down at what point in the workflow the problem occurres.

Regards Ray

One more note,

a years ago I had the same problems with PSP X2 or X4. File was saved but corrupted, can not be opened.. So I lost all my work.
Unfortunately we does not have any simple way to check integrity of .pspimage file.

So, do you opened a problematic file on Windows 10?

FWIW. In the past I've had similar issues. However I have a save routine that I've used for many many years that eases the pain somewhat if you ever get a corrupted file.

When starting a PSPImage file I always add mod01 to the file name. Then after a period I do a 'save as'. Save with the name now ending with mod02. Work on the file with mod02. I keep this routine up until I've finished the work. Often with mod09 or mod10. If ever there is a corruption I simply have to repeat the work since the last saved version.

All programs, and users, are capable of sticking their finger in the wrong hole from time to time. Work habits can help get you out of the mess.
