ASP2 and Pixelmator

I use ASP2 for most of my PP but also use Pixelmator for some other PP too. The two programs work well together but I have a question for those who use the same set-up.
When I save a file in Pixelmator, I click on the save as jpeg and save it to ASP2. Then, when I open the image up in ASP2 it is saved as a TIFF file instead of a jpeg. Is there a way to get ASP2 to save it as a jpeg? I know the default setting in Preferences only lets you use TIFF.
Anyway, just curious. It is no big deal to save a TIFF as a jpeg but it takes some extra steps I wish could be avoided.
