Hello,
I'm trying to replace an image background.
I tried 2 methods:
1. Using the background removal tool
2. Selecting the background with the magic wand, and removing it.
In both you can see that there is still a thin white line between the object and the background.
Please help.
Thanks
Rami

Re: Removing background
When using the Magic Wand do you set a Feather size?
Depending on how large the original image is experiment with 3 for or more.

Hi,
Not during selecting. After.
I did Selection >Modify>Feather.
It improved the result but not enough.

Re: Removing background
Instead of removing the pixels I'd opt for masking instead. Fine tweaking can then remove more or add back as needed.

Thanks.
Well … It seems as a good idea, but , I'm a sculptor, not a digital imaging expert... , and I don't really understand how to use making (I tried but didn't really figured it out …)

Re: Removing background
For this subject, try the Background Eraser tool (not the removal tool).

Re: Removing background
After making your initial selection with your chosen tool- magic wand, lasso, smart selection etc., click on Selections tab, then choose Edit Selection. Your initial selection will now turn red, and in your Layers palette a mask is automatically created. Choose the Paintbrush tool, a brush type and size. In your Materials palette choose black and white as Foreground and Background colors. One will add to your selection, the other will remove- switch adding to removing brushstrokes by hitting the curved arrow in the Materials palette to swap colors. When done, click on your Background layer in the Layers palette and the edited selection mask will automatically merge with the background.
It takes a small amount of practice, and I find this the easiest way to modify selections rather than guessing and trial and error using the Modify selection like feather, expand and contract etc. Some of the tools in Modify under Selections are useful, but for detail editing like the image you presented use the Edit Selection process.
