Chroma key and mask frame on same clip?

Post by fingerbreaker »

Is there any way to apply a chroma key filter and a mask frame onto the same overlay clip? I'm using x7 but I'd be willing to upgrade to a later version.

I want to create a shot where a green screened character appears to pass through a portal and changes appearance on the other side. So I would overlay the same clip twice, apply chroma key to eliminate the green screen, then use mask frames on each clip to hide the left and right side accordingly (then apply some other FX to make one side look different).

I could easily crop each clip, but I would much rather have the intersection of the two clips be a complex shape to look more realistic.

Thanks for any input,

I thought of a potential workaround: Create a solid green main clip; apply the overlay clip and use a mask frame on it; render that project. Now I can import that new clip and apply chroma key to it. The end result should be that the original clip now has both a mask frame and a chroma key applied to it. Maybe that's obvious to experienced users, but for me it feels like I just solved Rubick's Cube!

You missed one tip.
You don't have to render, you can save one solution as pre1.vsp and than reload it to Final.vsp and apply further keys.

Hi fingerbreaker,

Here are a few links about mask and green/blue screen. Hope they can be of any help.

I don't know what exactly you want to achieve, but sometimes we should think a little bit more often at Boris Graffiti that comes as a plugin with VideoStudio.

Also, if you want more, see the link in the signature below. In the videostudio file, if you type green or screen or chroma or mask in the search tool of Excel, you will get lots of results. You can copy the name of any result and paste it in Google or other search tool as to view these videos on the Web.
