question on mask frames.

Post by pblais »

Hi again,

First I wish to thank Trevor, Lata and Jaro for all the help they gave me with my picture in picture question. With their help and a little bit of reading, I was able to accomplish what I wanted.. and more using Overlay options and Mask Frames.

Now I have a question about the Mask Frames. I used one of the rectangle with the rounded corners and blurred edges that comes "canned" with the software. Here is my question. How can I modify (or build from scratch) this mask. On a couple of pictures that I am using it on, the edges cover too much of the picture. If I click and pull on one of the corner handles, all that does it make the whole thing bet bigger with the edges still covering the same amount of picture. What I would like to do is be able to enlarge or reduce just the mask rectangle and not the picture under it.
Is this possible with my limited skill set????

thank you in advance
Pierre

Hi Pierre,

If I'm not mistaking, I don't think that you can modify a mask once you apply it in VideoStudio.

Personally what I would do, is : Put my picture on the Main or any Overlay Track and apply Vignette Filter from NewBlue Fx Essentials II (normally included in all recent versions of VideoStudio). Double-click on the picture/Personalize filter/Framed type. Personalize the settings : Width, height, opacity, colour, artistic blur, etc. . You could even select another style like oval.

Thank Jaro,
I played around with that a little. The problem I see there is the outside of the shape also. When I used the rectangle mask the outside of the picture/mask had rounded corners as did the inside.

Also... is there a way to copy/paste all the settings from one vignette onto the rest of them on all the other pictures?

Thanks again...

Good evening Pierre,

There's a square mask with completely straight corners, therefore it looks exactly like if you had inserted a picture into another one.

I've uploaded a project as example. At the beginning, I've used three masks similar to a square, but it looks nicer and, at least, don't have rounded corners. I'm also showing a few of what can be done with the Vignette filter. There are informative pictures/texts, links for tutorials on masks, instructions on how to copy/paste Attributes from one picture/video to another one.

Go to https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=1 ... =folder%2c, Files for all/Project for others/Mask with vignette 01.

Maybe there are better ways to achieve what you want, but I don't see it could be. Boris Graffiti ???

Hi Guys

JaRo nice job a lot of work there, just to add when Copy and Paste Attributes, Shift Click will select multiple clips so we can paste to more than one.
We did ask Corel to make it possible to select more than one but non adjacent clips, not possible unfortunately.

You can create your own mask using any image editor, but Video Studio can also do that.

Test……………
Add a black colour image to the top track (graphics library)
Add a white colour clip to the overlay track (rectangular mask)
Take a Snapshot in Project mode, creates a BMP saved to the working folder.
Access Chroma Mask Frame – press the “+”
Navigate for the new image.

Try with different shapes.

Hope this helps.

Hi Pierre,

I'm working on a few possibilities for masks. Mask is used to hide a part of a picture. In VideoStudio, the Mask and Chroma Key can be applied only on Overlay Tracks on a picture/video/colour to hide a part of the Main Track or one of these on another one placed on another Overlay Track.

I would like to know what exactly you're trying to do : Mask on a single picture, on a picture over another one. Where is your main picture (Main or Overlay Track) ?

Have you also looked at the 'Frames' in the frame library - which can be found by clicking on the flower icon to the right of the preview window - they can be resized completely independent of the size of the image - they need to be put in an additional overlay track lower than your video

or indeed you can simply make your own frame any shape you want - something along these lines - where the heart can be made any size you want

Hi Pierre,

Brian is right about Frames. Once again, you could do your own, download some from the Web. Personally, I prefer in PNG format as they become transparent in Overlay Tracks. In the link after each one of my post, you can find some under the file « Frames ». In Project for others, I've uploaded another project (Mask with Boris Graffiti 01) to show different ways to work with Frames, Masks, Filters. There are probably many other ways to replace Mask provided with VideoStudio. Sometimes, the proper Filter could do the job. Boris Graffiti is also something that people forget. In Documents of the link, there's a file called « liste_corelvideostudiopro_boris.xlsx » with the names of 102 videos I've found on the Web. Some videos are made for Avid, Pinnacle, Boris Red. Nevertheless, just about all of them use the same principles/rules than Boris Graffiti with VideoStudio or, at least, are pretty close. You should be able to copy the name, go to the Web, paste the name and see them on the Web.
