can .vop files be used in Vidoe Studio X8?

Post by ottersea »

I have some DVD camcorder disc that I want to edit and clean up. They are in the .vop file format which I believe is the dvd file format. Is there some way to get these onto the Video Studio X8 so I can edit and combine them into one DVD?

It might be me ignorant, I have never heard about VOP media file type. VOB is a file of DVD structure, I know...

Hi
I think a typo.....

It is possible that the camcorder software will allow you to import the Disc to your pc, the files will be Mpeg2.

Video Studio should also do that.
Place the disc in your CD/DVD drive
Right click the timeline and choose Insert Digital Media

Browse for the disc and Video-TS folder.

Some more details regarding Import Digital Media.

Yes typo it is a .vob file. Did as you suggested but when I go to the file it come back with "there is no valid content". The camcorder is a samsung and I can download the files to the computer and run them using VLC media player. The files on the DVD are shown as "VLC media file (.vob) (.VOB)". So basically I can watch them but there is no way I can import them into Video Studio that I have found.

Hi
When you see “there is no valid content". Are you able to ignore and continue?

Does the disc need “finalising” within the camera before trying to import.?

Do you have software that came with the camera that can import the files, that may be the best option.

With the Vob files on the pc try re-naming to use MPG as the files extension, sometimes works and allows Video Studio to read them.

Hi
It does not give me an option to ignore in VS
The Camcorder does not have the option to finalize. When I go to the disk manager the finalize option is greyed out. I assume that means it has been finalized.
Cannot find the software for this. It is an 8 year old camera and the only software I found on the Samsung site is for Vista which apparently does not work with W7, at least I cannot get it to work.
Have not been able to change extension. When I go into the file folder and click change name all I can change is the file name. The extension does not appear to be able to change it.
Do you know of any free DVD rippers that may work to get this video off the disk?

Hi ottersea

Your folder options are set to hide extensions

Go to any folder , Tools – Folder Options – View tab

Deselect “Hide Extensions for known file types.”

Now you should be able to rename the Vob to Mpg

Oh....
If you do not see the Menu bar with Tools, go to Organise – Layout – tick Menu Bar.
